Houston, Texas (November 22, 2003) - Questionable Past looks to have a very bright future as she captured tonight’s feature at Sam Houston Race Park, the $35,000 Miss Houston Stakes. Owned by Tommy Thomas of Houston, the 2-year-old filly won her fourth race of the year and the first stakes of her career tonight. Ridden by jockey Cathleen Garner, the Kentucky-bred filly dueled with Rare Glitter in the final furlong, edging ahead at the wire. She completed the seven-furlong contest in a time of 1:24.84.

Trained by Jim Hudson, Questionable Past ($3.00) was purchased by Thomas last year at the Keeneland Sale for $15,000. Thomas, whose horses race under the stable name Long Odds Racing Stable, Inc., was a fan of her sire, Petionville, and was very pleased with her fourth consecutive win this evening.

"Jim has done a wonderful job with her," said Thomas. "Two-year-old fillies are kind of tough to get consistent, but patience and just an all-around good job has kept her going. We’re real proud of her."

Garner has ridden her in each of her five previous races. Other than her first race last August on the Retama Park turf course, Questionable Past was unstoppable.

"She’s a good filly," stated Garner. "She wants to be a racehorse. She wants to do everything right and when she gets out there, she’s willing to do anything you ask."

Roman Chapa rode second-place finisher, Rare Glitter for trainer Steve Asmussen.

"Our goal was to take her back off the pace and make a late move," said Chapa. "None of the others went for the lead and she was able to make it easy. I got her to come back to me and relax then she give me a good run down the lane. That other filly is just tough to beat and she beat me twice before."

Running third was Bigtimeaffair, also trained by Asmussen and ridden by Jeremy Beasley, who has ridden 30 winners so far this meet at Sam Houston.

I think she took to the course just fine," commented Beasley on her transition from Louisiana Downs to Houston. "It's just a question of being third best. Rare Glitter and the other filly of Hudson's (Questionable Past) were undoubtedly just two better fillies tonight. I just don't know if she's on the same level as the two horses that finished in front of her. She was great. She just wasn't fast enough. Plain and simple."
