Run Zeal Run Captures J.R. Straus
Memorial on Opening Night at Retama Park Selma,
Texas (August 5, 2005) - Displaying tremendous early speed and
repulsing all challengers, Run Zeal Run stopped the clock in 1:09
3/5 to win the $40,000 J. R. Straus Memorial going six furlongs
on opening night of Retama Park's Thoroughbred meet. Ridden by newcomer
jock Omar Rodriguez, the seven-year-old gelding paid $12.40 to win.
An exacta with the winner and second place finished War Bridle paid
$49.20.
"Six furlongs is ideal for this horse," said wining trainer
George Northrop.
From ten lifetime starts at three-quarters of a mile, Run Zeal
Run moved his record to 5-2-1.
Bred and owned by Hilmer Schmidt's Indian Hill Farm, Run Zeal Run
has now won five races out of seven lifetime starts at Retama Park.
Run Zeal Run's lifetime earnings moved past the $250,000 mark with
Friday night's win.
Live racing returns Saturday night at 6:45 p.m. Saturday also marks
the first of nine Time Warner Cable nights. Fans can bring their
current Time Warner Cable statement and receive free admission,
free grandstand seating, a free hot dog buffet, and reduced drink
prices.
