Run Zeal Run Captures J.R. Straus Memorial on Opening Night at Retama Park

Selma, Texas (August 5, 2005) - Displaying tremendous early speed and repulsing all challengers, Run Zeal Run stopped the clock in 1:09 3/5 to win the $40,000 J. R. Straus Memorial going six furlongs on opening night of Retama Park's Thoroughbred meet. Ridden by newcomer jock Omar Rodriguez, the seven-year-old gelding paid $12.40 to win. An exacta with the winner and second place finished War Bridle paid $49.20.

"Six furlongs is ideal for this horse," said wining trainer George Northrop.

From ten lifetime starts at three-quarters of a mile, Run Zeal Run moved his record to 5-2-1.

Bred and owned by Hilmer Schmidt's Indian Hill Farm, Run Zeal Run has now won five races out of seven lifetime starts at Retama Park. Run Zeal Run's lifetime earnings moved past the $250,000 mark with Friday night's win.

Live racing returns Saturday night at 6:45 p.m. Saturday also marks the first of nine Time Warner Cable nights. Fans can bring their current Time Warner Cable statement and receive free admission, free grandstand seating, a free hot dog buffet, and reduced drink prices.
