Newman’s Got a Lovely
Secret and a New Track Record at Manor Downs
Manor, Texas (March 18, 2006) - Gabe Newman must surely have
a training secret he could share. Lovely Secret is now the proud
owner of five wins in a row at Manor Downs, and he has broken previous
track records in three of those victories. On April 4, 2004 Lovely
Secret broke the Manor Downs track record going 4 ½ furlongs
in :51.21 on his way to a two-length victory. Last year on March
12, Lovely Secret broke Manor Downs’ four-furlong track record,
clocking the distance in :45.42 on his way to a 6 ¾ length
triumph. In Saturday’s eighth race at Manor Downs, Lovely
Secret again stole the show, this time going 5 ½ furlongs.
Santos Carrizales cleared his mount of other rivals, and drew off
under right-hand urging to a 7 ½-length win and new track
record of 1:03.56. The old track record of 1:04.49 was set on May
25, 2002, by Cousin Steve.
The Newman-owned and trained six year old chestnut gelding was
bred in Texas by Mrs. Gene Whitehead. Lovely Secret is by Secret
Claim out of the Triple Sec mare Lovely Mama.
The winner’s share of the $6,800 claiming race ($4,080),
brings Lovely Secret’s total earnings to $45,182, with 29
total lifetime starts and a record of 7-1-5.
Running second to Lovely Secret was Imaluckymemorie, followed
by Preacher George, Dallas County, Collier Gold, Delta’s Pet,
Colmena, Secret Lake and Shirley D Feather.
