Grand Prairie, Texas (Friday, July 8, 2016) - Texas-breds will be center stage Saturday, July 9. It's Stars of Texas Night, which showcases four stakes races restricted to Thoroughbred horses foaled in the state, with purses combining for a total of $286,149. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and the first of nine live races is 7:05 p.m. The stakes action kicks off in the fifth race at approximately 8:57 p.m. All times CDT.

Grade 3 winner of over $450,000 Promise Me Silver will run in the Valor Farm Stakes, and 2015 Grade 3 Texas Mile winner Texas Air will go in the Assault Stakes, as well as the super fast Supermason, who took the Premiere Stakes here opening night and then broke the course record at seven and a half on the grass set back in 1998. These are a just a few of the Stars competing on Stars of Texas Night.

Bling On the Music and Pure Grey Take on the Rest in Texas Thoroughbred Futurity Filly Division

First up is the 24th running of the $94,902 Texas Thoroughbred Futurity for Texas Accredited and TTA Sale graduate fillies, two-year-olds at five furlongs on the main track. It's the scheduled fifth race.

Clark O. Brewster's Pure Grey won her debut in open company at Indiana Grand by a super impressive 13 lengths on June 15, clocking the five furlongs in :58.11. The two-year-old Texas-bred filly by Too Much Bling out of Folksy is a half sister to super fast Supermason, who runs later on the card in the Assault Stakes. She is trained by Steve Asmussen, who has trained the winner of this race a record 10 times of the 23 runnings. She will be ridden by Iram Diego.

Keene Thoroughbreds LLC's Bling On the Music was a easy debut winner here on May 19 in a state-bred maiden for fillies. Also by Too Much Bling, she is out Soft Music by Action This Day. She's had two bullet works since her debut win. She is trained by J. R. Caldwell and will be ridden by Luis Quinonez.

Though the two aforementioned stand out from the others, it should be noted that six of the eight fillies entered are coming off winning efforts. That makes it more interesting.

Promise Me Silver Set to Impress in Valor Farm Stakes

Race 6 is the 19th running of the $50,000 Valor Farm Stakes for Accredited Texas-bred fillies & mares, three-year-olds and upward, going six furlongs on the main track.

Four-year-old filly Promise Me Silver, owned by Myrna & Robert Luttrell, will likely dominate in this edition of the Valor Farm Stakes. After winning her career debut here in 2014, she romped in the next seven straight, all stakes, including the Debutante at Churchill, and the Dixie Belle and Instant Racing Stakes both at Oaklawn. Her eighth straight victory was the Grade 3 Eight Belles on the Kentucky Oaks undercard at Churchill. From there she went to Belmont Park in the Grade 1 Acorn, where she suffered her first defeat. She would lose two more races, the Grade 3 Victory Ride at Belmont in July last year, and the Grade 2 Prioress at Saratoga last September, before taking a break from racing. She returned to competition May 20, winning an allowance at Louisiana Downs, and has been training well. She is conditioned by Bret Calhoun. Current leading rider C. J. McMahon will be aboard.

J. McMahon, 3-5).

Shaded Installed as 7-5 Favorite in the $91,247 Texas Thoroughbred Futurity Colt & Gelding Division

Race 7 on the card is the 27th running of the $91,247 Texas Thoroughbred Futurity for Texas Accredited and TTA Sale graduate colts & geldings, two-year-olds, at five furlongs on dirt.

If Pure Grey does well in the filly division, then Shaded could make it a Texas Thoroughbred Futurity double for owner Clark O. Brewster and trainer Steve Asmussen.

Shaded, a two-year-old son of Too Much Bling out of Fast Find, by Mineshaft, won against Texas-bred maidens here last month, besting favorite Too Much Gone by 3 3/4 lengths. Singing Aces was third in that race. They all meet up again Saturday for a share of this, but could have to deal with Boomer's Boy and team Broberg/McMahon. The pair has been rolling through the meet racking up wins like someone was handing them out in bundles.

Last Year's Winner and Runner-Up, Texa Bling and Texas Air, Return in the Assault

The scheduled eighth race is the 19th running of the $50,000 Assault Stakes, named in honor of the Texas-bred which became horse racing's seventh Triple Crown winner in 1946. It is for Accredited Texas-breds, three-year-olds and up, going one mile on the main track.

Texas Bling is back to defend his title, Grade 3 winner Texas Air is back to best his second place finish, and throw in this season's Premiere Stakes winner, Supermason, with Spider's Alibi and Lonesome Wind, and you've got an on-your-feet exciting kind of horse race! This may be one of this season's best.

Hall's Family Trust's Texas Bling, a six-year-old son of Too Much Bling, has only one win since his victory in last year's Assault, an optional claiming allowance at Remington Park in November. His last start was a fourth place finish in the Premiere Stakes opening night of the current season here. He needs to step up his game for a repeat, which is certainly possible. Texas Bling is conditioned by Danele Durham. Jockey David Cabrera will have the mount.

Those of you that were here will remember Paul J. Rigali, Jr.'s Texas Air rallying to win the Grade 3 Texas Mile last year, returning $51.40 on a $2 win ticket. The eight-year-old gelding by Texas City certainly holds the age advantage, and if he performs anything like he did in the Mile last year, he could be the victor. Texas Air's best after placing in the Assault was a second in the Stars of Texas at Sam Houston last January. He then won an optional claiming allowance here May 29. He is trained by Allen Milligan and will be ridden by Jareth Loveberry.

Supermason, owned by Brad Grady and trained by Bret Calhoun, has been having a bang-up meet from day 1, when he destroyed the field in the Premiere Stakes on opening night. It was an impressive seven & three-quarter lengths victory in the dirt sprint. Next out was an optional claiming allowance at seven and a half on the grass, where he beat the track record that held from 1998. His most recent was a fifth place finish in the Grade 3 Lone Star Park Handicap.
