Two Divisions of $100,000 Texas
Stallion Stakes on Tap for Stars of Texas/Dollar Day on Saturday at
LSP (Grand Prairie, Texas - July 7, 2010) -
Wayne Sanders & Larry Hirsch’s Tamtastic, who has been
made the solid 8-5 morning line favorite by track odds maker Rick
Lee, will be looking for his first career win this Saturday at Lone
Star Park in the 9th Running of the $100,000 Texas Stallion Stakes
for nominated, two-year-old colts and geldings to be run at 5 ½
furlongs on the main track.
In both of Tamtastic’s first two starts, including the $60,000
TTA Sales Futurity here on June 5, the gelded son of Early Flyer
was runner up to Aces N Kings. In that last race, the Bret Calhoun-trainee
missed by only a ½ length after going four wide on the turn.
“The race (TTA Sales Futurity) was a little short for us
at five furlongs,” explained Calhoun. “With a little
more distance, I’m sure that we would have reeled him in.
Aces N Kings came back and won the ($50,000) Minstrel at Louisiana
Downs last weekend and that gives us even more legitimacy.”
With post position five, and plenty of early speed inside, the
race should set up for Tamtastic to be in his usual position right
behind the leaders. “We’ve drawn well and he’s
got enough tactical speed that I expect we’ll be in a stalking
position,” added Calhoun.
The chief rival in the field of 11 should be Marty & Jimmy
Evans’ Swift Flyer, who enters the race off of a career debut
win here on June 17. Trained by Allen Milligan, the chestnut son
of Wimbledon will be ridden by Roberto Villafan and is 5-2 in the
morning line.
The field from the rail out, with jockey and morning line odds
listed in parenthesis, consists of: Lonely Street (Christopher Zamora,
50-1); Swift Flyer (Roberto Villafan, 5-2); Dewan Adieu (Chris Landeros,
20-1); Pacheco (Junior Chalcaltana, 8-1); Tamtasic (Cliff Berry,
8-5); Simply Gone (Martin Escobar, 6-1); Jazz Party (Aaron Gryder,
5-1); Captain Olson (Eddie Martin Jr., 20-1); Alli’s Legend
(Benito Morales, 20-1); Valid Promise (Bobby Walker Jr., 8-1); and
Powerfully (Richard Eramia, 20-1). Pacheco and Valid Promise will
run as an entry.
Scheduled as race nine on the 10-race program, the Texas Stallion
Stakes (Staunch Avenger Division) has an approximate post time of
5:19 p.m.
Asmussen Entry of Intimidating Woman and Far Too Primal
Favored in Texas Stallion Stakes Pan Zareta (Filly) Division
Lone Star Park’s all-time leading trainer Steve Asmussen
has enlisted the services of current leading jockey Chris Landeros
and internationally renowned rider Aaron Gryder aboard his 7-5 morning
line-favored entry of Intimidating Woman and Far too Primal, respectively,
in Saturday’s 9th Running of the $100,000 Texas Stallion Stakes
(Pan Zareta Division) at Lone Star Park. Scheduled as the third
event on the Stars of Texas Day card, the 5 ½-furlong contest
is for 2-year-old fillies that have been nominated to the Texas
Stallion Stakes.
Keith Asmussen’s Intimidating Woman ships in from Churchill
Downs in Kentucky where the bay daughter of Intimidator won a maiden
claiming event at first asking on May 9. She is stepping up to stakes
company for the first time while looking to improve upon a strong,
third-place finish in a conditioned allowance race in her second
start on May 31 at the home of the Kentucky Derby. The bay daughter
of Primal Storm, Far too Primal, also owned by Keith Asmussen in
partnership with Erv Woolsey, is looking to make it two-for-two
after breaking her maiden at Lone Star Park on May 29.
But those Asmussen runners aren’t the only contenders “in
the family” with a legitimate shot at the $60,000 winner’s
share. Heiligbrodt Racing Stable’s Fastation, who has twice
been second behind Lady Giacomo, in both her career debut and her
last out in the $66,000 TTA Sales Futurity here on June 5, among
her three runner-up finishes, has been made the 3-1, third choice
in the morning line. Richard Eramia has the mount.
Another contender, listed as the second choice at 5-2, is Brian
Cleveland’s Princess Turandot, conditioned by current Lone
Star Park leading trainer Bret Calhoun. The bay daughter of Gold
Legend, who will be ridden by Cliff Berry, broke out of the maiden
ranks in her third career start on June 19 after two third-place
finishes, all at Lone Star Park.
The field from the rail out, with jockey and morning line odds
listed in parenthesis, consists of: Intimidating Woman (Chris Landeros,
7-5); Last Legend (Bobby Walker Jr, 8-1); Far too Primal (Aaron
Gryder, 7-5); Rush the Net (Junior Chacaltana, 10-1); She’s
Olmos Heaven (Roberto Villafan, 20-1); Fastation (Richard Eramia,
3-1); and Princess Turandot (Cliff Berry, 5-2). Scheduled post time
is 2:31 p.m.
