Churchill Shipper Chamberlain Bridge
Looms as One to Beat in Lone Star Park Turf Sprint Handicap at LSP
(July 3, 2008) - Saturday's 12th running of the $50,000
Lone Star Park Turf Sprint Handicap, for three-year-olds and up
to be run at five furlongs over the turf course, is headed by Churchill
Downs shipper Chamberlain Bridge. Owned by Carl Moore Management
LLC, and trained by Bret Calhoun, Chamberlain Bridge comes into
Saturday's race off of an impressive five-furlong, turf allowance
win at Churchill Downs. Cliff Berry has been assigned to ride.
A winner of five of nine career starts for earnings of $120,905,
Chamberlain Bridge has won three of four of his starts sprinting
over turf for $80,858.
"He's a nice turf sprinter and I like the outside post for
him on Saturday," said Calhoun. "He showed a new dimension
in his latest race when he was able to let a horse go ahead of him,
and when he shifted to the outside, he just ran away from them through
the stretch."
The Lone Star Park Turf Sprint Handicap is not short on early speed
and Chamberlain Bridge will be facing a number of quality turf sprinters
including the Chris Hartman-trained Fearless Anthony, an impressive
winner over this turf course in his grass debut here on June 1,
and Orphan Brigade, also trained by Calhoun, who finished second
in this event in 2007 when the race was moved to the main track.
Orphan Brigade was third in the 2005 running of this event.
The field from the rail out, with jockey and morning line odds
listed in parenthesis, consists of: Daring Child (Quincy Hamilton,
10-1); Ranger B. (Luis Quinonez 20-1); Nereus (Richard Eramia, 9-2);
Distinguish (Justin Shepherd, 6-1); Fearless Anthony (Ken Tohill,
7-2); Joe Move (Eguard Tejera, 15-1); Orphan Brigade (Bobby Walker
Jr., 6-5); and Chamberlain Bridge (Cliff Berry, 6-5).
Scheduled as race nine on the 10-race program, the Lone Star Park
Turf Sprint Handicap has an approximate post time of 5:19 P.M. CDT.
