| Luis Quinonez Gets the Win Aboard My Master Plan in the Lane's End Danny Shifflett Scholarship Stakes at Lone Star Park
Grand Prairie, Texas (Saturday, June 24, 2017) - Five inches of rain fell over Lone Star Park in the early morning hours, prompting racing officials to transfer the scheduled turf races to the main track. That included the featured $50,000 Lane's End Danny Shifflett Scholarship Stakes. Originally scheduled at seven and a half furlongs on turf, the Lane's End went at one mile on the main track, which was labeled muddy (sealed).
Favorite Zippit E took the lead out of the gates, with My Master Plan pressing her until the three-quarter pole, taking over at the top of the stretch, and drawing clear under strong urging to get the win in a final time of 1:39.31. Zippit E was able to hold on for the place, and Gentle Secret got up for show. Fractions for the one mile contest were :24.14, :47.63 and 1:12.69.
Mutuels returned $5.20; $3.00 and $2.20 for the winner, $2.60 and $2.10 for place, and $2.80 for show. Completing the order of finish was Gold Shock, Special Rockstar, Fancy Ticket, Jolie Mon, Soul Affair, and Celebrity's Gift. Beta Baby and Texas Belle were scratched from the race.
Trained by Danny Pish, My Master Plan increased her earnings to $223,647 for owner Joyce D. McGough of Granbury, Texas. This was her sixth win from 16 starts.
This was the third win on the card for jockey Luis Quinonez. He also scored his 400th Lone Star Park victory aboard Butler Field in the first race of the night. |
