| Zippit E Gets It Done in the $50,000 Lane's End Danny Shifflett Scholarship Stakes at Lone Star Park
Grand Prairie, Texas (Saturday, June 23, 2018) - Wayne Sanders & Larry Hirsch's Zippit E (My Golden Song) got the victory in the Lane's End Danny Shifflett Scholarship Stakes today. The seven-and-a-half furlong turf stake is restricted to Texas-bred fillies and mares. Favored Zippit E, a five-year-old gray mare trained by Bret Calhoun, was hustled to the front from the start under rider Jamie Theriot, where she held off foes to the wire. Final time over a firm turf course was 1:28.85.
Longshot Mighty Ferrari tracked the pace all the way, fought to get by the winner in the final furlong, but couldn't get it done and settled for second place. Dagny was well placed just off the pace, made a bid in the final sixteenth, but couldn't get by the first two while finishing third.
Zippit E returned $6.20, $4.20 and $2.60. Mighty Ferrari returned $19.60 and $6.80, while Dagny returned $2.60. Special Rockstar, San Antonio Stroll, Texas Belle, Flight Queen and Easter Ellie completed the order of finish.
The purse earnings of $30,000 put Zippit E past the $200,000 earnings mark to $206,891. This was her seventh win from 17 starts and her first trip back to the winner's circle since she won the Jersey Lily at Sam Houston last January. |
