Trainer Steve Asmussen Sweeps TTA Sales Futurities at LSP

Grand Prairie, Texas (Saturday, June 7, 2008) - J. Kirk Robison's Lyin' Heart, trained by Steve Asmussen and ridden by Quincy Hamilton, overcame a disastrous start to rally to victory in the $100,000 TTA Sales Futurity Stakes (Colts and Geldings Division) by three-and-a-half lengths over stablemate Belton. It was another neck back to Justwill in third.

Lyin' Heart broke last in the field of 11 before displaying his dominance against his overmatched rivals with a late burst of speed. After falling behind early fractions of :21.75 and :45.56, Lyin' Heart hit top gear and rolled through the stretch to stop the clock in :58.41.

"He was a step slow (leaving the gate) and he got bounced around a little," said winning jockey Quincy Hamilton. "As soon as we got straightened up I hustled him into position. After that, he put himself in perfect position and when I got clear turning for home, he was all horse."

With the win, Lyin' Heart gave trainer Steve Asmussen his third win in the TTA Futurity (Colts and Geldings Division) and improved his record to two-for-two with earnings of $73,020

"He was away a step slow in a 5/8 (mile) stake and they ran it in 58.41," said winning trainer Steve Asmussen. Hopefully he has a great future ahead of him."

Lyin' Heart paid $10.80, $3.80, $3.60, runner-up Belton returned $2.20, $2.40, and Justwill paid $2.40 for show. Call West, Valid Vision, Coble Avenue, Expect Smoke, J.R. Steamer, Tres Dangereux, Seldan, and Bold Minardi completed the order of finish.

Will Farish's Bridesmaid, trained by Steve Asmussen and ridden by Justin Shepherd, wore down her stablemate Lightlightlight in the final furlong to win the $100,000 TTA Sales Futurity Stakes (Fillies division) by a neck. It was another six lengths back to the Michael Stidham-trained Truly Lucky in third.

Sent to post at 6-1, Bridesmaid was patiently handled through the opening half-mile while sitting behind fractions of :22.02 and :45.97. She was moved into the clear approaching the stretch and unleashed a relentless rally to stop the timer in 58.63.

"I am very proud of both fillies," said winning trainer Steve Asmussen. "They've been doing great lately and we are very fortunate to get horses like this with this kind of ability. I'm very pleased with the way it worked out today."

Bridesmaid, who now has a win and a second in her first two races, gave trainer Steve Asmussen his eighth win in the TTA Futurity (Fillies Division) and increased the two-year-old filly's career earnings to $64,434.
