$400,000 Steve Sexton Mile
The $400,000 Steve Sexton Mile (Gr. III) anchored the day's races, and racing fans were rewarded with a thrilling three-way battle to the finish between Touchuponastar, Frosted Grace, and Heroic Move, all looking to earn the graded stakes win. At the wire, it was Heroic Move with a neck in front. The four-year-old Quality Road colt covered the distance in 1:37.69 with Harry Hernandez aboard. Robertino Diodoro trains for the owners, Arnold Bennewith, Randy Howg, Lana Wiest, R6 Stables, Gary Kropp, and Norman Tremblay.
$300,000 Texas Derby
The Texas Derby attracted a field of ten talented three-year-olds for the 1 1/16 race. EJ Won the Cup was able to gain ground late under a ride by Mike Smith and crossed the wire a length ahead of all others. The chestnut colt by Omaha Beach, trained by Doug O'Neill and owned by Superfecta King Stables, stopped the clock for the 1 1/16 mile Derby at 1:44.62 as the 2-to-1 wagering favorite.
$200,000 Ouija Board Distaff
Dana's Beauty picked up her her third win in a row, besting the rest of the field by a head in the one mile race on the Texas turf. This was the ninth career win from 38 starts for the six-year-old mare by Not This Time. Michael J. Maker conditioned the mare owned by Resolute Racing. Jockey Ramon Vasquez was in the irons for the win.
$100,000 Memorial Day Sprint
Spirit Wind, with Mike Smith aboard, gained command of the race at the top of the stretch and drew clear, winning by 3 1/2 lengths as the 3-to-10 wagering favorite. Trained by Saffie Joseph, Jr., this was the fifth win from six tries at the six furlong distance for the five-year-old mare.
$100,000 Speightstown Sprint
It took a late rally from Minnesota Ready and jockey Cristian Torres to get the win in the $100,000 Speightstown Sprint, a six furlong main track contest. The five-year-old gelding by More Than Ready entered the top of the stretch in fourth, but closed with a frenzy to win by half a length. Tom Amoss trains the multiple stakes winner for owner Richard C. Colton, Jr.
$100,000 Chamberlain Bridge Stakes
It was not an impossible mission for Agent Peter Graves in the $100,000 Chamberlain Bridge Stakes. Despite early pressure, the six-year-old chestnut gelding and jockey CJ McMahon led most of the way in the five furlong turf sprint. Bettors who backed the gelding were rewarded with a $32.40 return on a $2 win wager after the 1 1/2 length win. Scott Young trains for Linda Juckette.
