Nates Mineshaft Shipping from Louisville for $300,000 Grade III Lone Star Park Handicap at Lone Star Park
(Grand Prairie, Texas - Saturday, May 26, 2012) - High weights have been assigned to Nates Mineshaft (121) and Marilyn's Guy (120), for Monday's 16th running of the $300,000 Grade III Lone Star Park Handicap The featured ninth race on our Memorial Day program for three-year-olds and upward, has attracted a total of eight contenders, all set to compete at a mile and a sixteenth over the main track.
Windy Hill Farms' multiple graded stakes winner, Nates Mineshaft was on a four-race winning streak, (three of them graded) but that came to an end in his last start at Churchill Downs with a sixth place finish in the Grade II Alysheba. His trainer, Austin Smith, blamed himself for the loss. "There was a horse in there we knew was going to go to the front," said Smith. "I didn't want to get in a speed duel with a horse that was going to be 80-1. We tried to rate him and he had a few, ah, he'll run good."
Nates Mineshaft is scheduled to arrive here by van Saturday morning around 3:30 a.m. He will be walked on the track later in the day, and jogged on Sunday in prep for Monday's Handicap.
The Lone Star Park Handicap is scheduled as race nine on the 10-race Memorial Day program with an approximate post time of 5:19 CDT. The field from the rail out, with jockeys and morning line odds listed in parenthesis, is: Apart (Glen Murphy, 8-1); Get in da House (Donald Simington, 8-1); Night Party (Victor Lebron, 15-1); Marilyn's Guy, (Cliff Berry, 2-1); Fog Alert (Ken Tohill, 15-1); Nates Mineshaft (Jesse Campbell, 8-5); Golden Yank (Jamie Theriot, 15-1); Imco Spirit (Alejandro Medellin, 10-1).
