Wasted Tears Sets New Course Record
in $200,000 Ouija Board at LSP Grand Prairie, Texas
(Monday, May 25, 2009) - Wasted Tears, bred, owned, and trained
by Bart B. Evans, won the 13th running of the Grade 3 $200,000 Ouija
Board Distaff over a firm turf course at Lone Star Park on Monday.
A Bay daughter of Najran, Wasted Tears rolled along on the lead
through opening fractions of :22.32, :45.36 while being pressured
by eventual fourth-place finisher Hotlantic. After briefly losing
the lead leaving the quarter-pole to that rival, Wasted Tears fought
back to post a one-length victory over Superior Storm. Love to Tell
was another 1/2-length back in third. The final time of 1:32.81
established a new turf course record breaking the record of 1:33.56
set by Kiraday on July 4, 1997.
“Her whole family has performed better the older they’ve
gotten,” said winning breeder/owner/trainer Bart Evans. “She’s
never really made any mistakes, and the mistakes she’s made,
I made for her. She’s been very honest in her life.”
On breaking the track record, “That’s nice, I mean
it’s great,” said Evans. “You know, if you raise
them, you see them, they’re like your kids.”
With the win, Wasted Tears improved her record to six wins from
11 starts, including a perfect four-for-four over the Lone Star
Park turf, and with the $120,000 first-place prize, she pushed her
career earnings to $230,798.
Wasted Tears paid $24.40, $13.80, $7.20, runner-up Superior Storm
returned $5.60, $4.00, and Love To Tell paid $7.40 for show. Hotlantic,
Sweeter Still, Rustic Flame, R Charlie's Angel and Flibberjibit
completed the order of finish.
