Storm Military Draws Outside Post
Nine in Grade III Dallas Turf Cup at LSP (May 24,
2008) - Monday's 12th running of the $200,000 Grade 3 Dallas
Turf Cup Handicap, for three-year-olds and up, to be run at a mile
and an eighth over turf, features Castleton Lyons & La Biznaga's
Storm Miltary. Trained by Bobby Frankel, Storm Military has won
eight of his 15 career starts for earnings of $190,022.
Storm Military has performed well against graded stakes competition
in California, most notably a fourth-place finish in the Grade 1
Kilroe Mile on March 1. Storm Military will be attempting to secure
his first graded stakes victory in the Dallas Turf Cup.
"He's doing well coming into this race," said Frankel.
"We tried to rate him too much when we first got him, but he's
been doing really good ever since we've started letting him roll
right from the gate."
Storm Military will face stiff competition from the Mike Mitchell-trained
Church Service. Claimed for $50,000 three starts ago, Mitchell has
since conditioned Church Service to back-to-back runner-up finishes
in the Grade 2 San Luis Obispo and Grade 2 Tokyo City at Santa Anita
Park.
Going Ballistic is another force to be reckoned with in the Dallas
Turf Cup. A Grade 2 winner racing over dirt, Going Ballistic has
won three of eight turf starts for $289,000, and boasts an overall
record of six wins from 22 starts for $928, 282 in total earnings.
The field from the rail out, with jockey and morning line odds
listed in parenthesis, consists of: Going Ballistic (Cliff Berry,
4-1); Eighteenthofmarch (James Graham, 15-1); Swains News (Quincy
Hamilton, 8-1); Church Service (Brice Blanc, 5-2); Jazz Quest (Aaron
Gryder, 15-1); Red Rock Creek (Shaun Bridgmohan, 15-1); Beta Capo
(Luis Quinonez, 15-1); Scrappy Roo (Richard Eramia, 8-1); and Storm
Military (Garret Gomez, 2-1).
Scheduled as race seven on the 11-race program, the Dallas Turf
Cup Handicap has an approximate post time of 4:23 P.M. CDT.
