Grand Prairie, Texas (Friday, April 25, 2014) - The 18th running of the $200,000 Grade 3 Texas Mile for three-year-olds & up has a strong field in for Saturday, April 26. 'The Mile', with nine entered, will be run for the first time under lights after the switch to Saturday night cards this year. Post time for The Mile is approximately 9:51 p.m. (CDT). The race is also the first leg of the Global Gaming Triple. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. First race post time is 6:35 p.m.

Clovertowne Farm's multiple graded stakes-placed Taptowne, a son of Tapit, has only one start this year. A third place finish in the Grade 3 Razorback Handicap at Oaklawn Park on March 15, on a wet/fast track. In other graded stakes attempts in 2013, the six-year-old gray gelding recorded a second place finish in each of the Grade 3 Ack Ack Handicap at Churchill Downs in September, the Grade 3 Cornhusker Handicap at Prairie Meadows in June and the Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap a year ago in April. His stats are 30-7-7-4 with earnings of $657,799.

Trainer Tim Glyshaw hopes Taptowne can get that first graded stakes win in Saturday night's 18th renewal of the Mile. Calvin Borel ships in for the mount.

Maggi Moss' Grand Contender, trained by Tom Amoss, has one win and two second place finishes from three starts this year. The six-year-old gelding by Strong Contender won the Borgata Stakes at Delta Downs on March 15 and was runner-up in two stakes at Fair Grounds, the Grade 3, Mineshaft Handicap on February 22 and the Louisiana Handicap on January 18. Grand Contender's career record reads 20-6-3-4 with earnings of $305,860. Richard Eramia will ride.

Taptowne and Grand Contender will each carry high weight of 121 lbs.

Bourbon Lane Stable's Bourbon Courage is seeking his first win of any kind since taking the prize in 2012's Grade 1 Super Derby at Louisiana Downs. The five-year-old horse, trained by Kellyn Gorder could certainly accomplish that here Saturday.

Bourbon Courage has a record 3-5-4 from 16 lifetime starts and a bankroll of $915,677. Leandro Goncalves has the mount.

As the first leg of the Global Gaming Triple, the Texas Mile has a possible bonus of $20,000. The GGT links the Texas Mile and the Lone Star Park Handicap with the Governor's Cup at Remington Park. The Bonus is awarded on a point system for those horses that participate in all three races. Points are awarded as follows: five points to the winner, three points to second, two points for third and one point for fourth place finishers.

Saturday night is not just for racing at Lone Star Park, although the race card is a great one, fans will want to stick around after the last race as American Country Music Artist Chris Young will take the stage for a concert performance.
