Tin Top Cat Wins JEH Stallion Station Stakes at Lone Star Park Saturday
(Grand Prairie, Texas - April 16, 2011) - Jerry Durant & Bill Jordan’s Tin Top Cat, trained by Bret Calhoun, won the 15th running of the $50,000 JEH Stallion Station Stakes over a fast main track at Lone Star Park Saturday.
With Justin Shepherd aboard, the four-year-old daughter of Supreme Cat enjoyed a comfortable trip sitting behind fractions of 22.37, 45.23. When given her cue to go after the leaders at the top of the stretch, Tin Top Cat dug in gamely through the lane to win going away by 1 1/2 lengths. Blackie’s Crown finished second, and it was another 1 3/4 lengths back to Lady Giacamo in third. The final time for the 6 1/2-furlong assignment was 1:17.33.
“She didn’t run all that well in her last two starts after we gave her some rest last year,” said winning owner Bill Jordan. “She was training well and we thought she was ready to run this time.”
"She was alert out of the gate,” added winning rider Justin Shepherd. “We wanted to get her behind horses and get her to relax. It worked out perfect."
Tin Top Cat earned $30,000 for her win in the JEH Stallion Station to increase her lifetime earnings to $303,524. It was her sixth win from 13 starts.
Tin Top Cat paid $11.60, $6.20, $4.20, runner-up Blackie’s Crown returned $12.60, $6.80, and Lady Giacamo paid $4.80 for show. Joy’s Paradise, Millenial Storm, Dixie Dust, Sera’s Tunnel, Justasassycat, Sahalie, and Last Wager completed the order of finish.
