$48.40 Longshot Formal Flyer Rallies
to Win JEH Station Stallion Station Stakes at LSP
Grand Prairie, Texas (Thursday, April 10, 2010) - Formal Flyer,
owned by John Silverthorne Ranch Inc. and trained by Danny Pish,
proved best in the 14th running of the 6 ½-furlong, $50,000
JEH Stallion Station Stakes, for accredited Texas-bred fillies and
mares, three-year-olds and upward, over a fast main track at Lone
Star Park on Saturday.
Ridden by Junior Chacaltana, the chestnut daughter of Early Flyer
found herself last of 10 after an opening quarter-mile in :22.09.
With just one horse beat after a half-mile in :44.67, Formal Flyer
began to build momentum entering the stretch where she was guided
to the outside. When Chacaltana asked for her best, she delivered
a determined stretch run to win going away. The final time for the
6 ½-furlong assignment was 1:17.28. Tin Top Cat finished
2 3/4 lengths behind in second, and it was another 1 ¾ lengths
back to favorite No Other Tone in third.
“Danny (winning trainer Danny Pish) told me to just let
her do what she wants out there, and when she started running coming
into the stretch, I said to myself, ‘I have to get her to
the outside,’ and she finished strong,” said winning
rider Junior Chacaltana.
“She was training really well coming into this race,”
added winning trainer Danny Pish. “She ran in this race last
year and didn’t have any racing luck, but she got it today.”
With the win, Formal Flyer recorded her second stakes victory
at Lone Star Park while improving her career record to four wins
from 28 starts, and the $30,000 winner’s share of the purse
increased her career earnings to $238,403.
Formal Flyer paid $48.40, $21.40 and $9.80, Tin Top Cat returned
$4.60 and $3.00, and No Other Tone paid $3.00 for show. Dixie Dust,
Judys Cure, Naevus Girl, Joy's Paradise, Wrenice, Amozan Ruler and
Valid Code completed the order of finish.
