Coyote Legend Holds on to Win Opening
Night Premiere Stakes at LSP Grand Prairie, Texas
(Thursday, April 8, 2010) - Clarence Scharbauer Jr’s Coyote
Legend, trained by Bret Calhoun, proved best in the 14th running

Star Park. Huntersrunaway, a 24-1 long shot, closed fast to finish
a half-length behind in second, and it was another half-length back

With Bobby Walker Jr. in the irons, the bay son of Gold Legend
was anxious in the starting gate before breaking near the front
of the field. After sitting just off of the early pacesetters behind
fractions of :23.46, 47.17, and 1:11.82, Coyote Legend was asked
for his best at he top of the stretch and prevailed in a long drive
while stopping the teletimer in 1:37.83) for the one-mile journey
over a fast main track.
"I’m not used to him having to work that hard, but
this was his first start against older horses and his first start
since February,” said winning rider Bobby Walker Jr. “This
is a colt with a lot of upside and this really was a big effort
from him."
With the win, Coyote Legend earned $30,000 to increase his lifetime
winnings to $195,636. It was his fifth win from nine career starts.
Coyote Legend paid $3.60, $2.40, $2.20, runner-up Huntersrunaway
returned $14.80, $7.60, and Poltergeist paid $3.00 for show. Lissa’s
