- Paz Ciudadana re-rallied along the inside rail to defeat stablemate
My Misty Princess by a head to win Saturday's $75,000 Irving Distaff
before an estimated crowd of 12,500 at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie,
Texas. Both horses are trained by Lone Star Park's all-time leading
trainer Steve Asmussen, who collected his second stakes win of the
three-day-old meeting.
Paz Ciudadana, ridden by Quincy Hamilton and carrying 118 pounds,
covered 7 ½ furlongs on turf in 1:29.63 and paid $4.60, $3.60
and $2.80 as the 7-5 favorite in the field of 10 fillies and mares.
My Misty Princess returned $9 and $5.40. The Bobby Frankel-trained
Elisa's Energy was another 1 ¼ lengths back in third and
paid $2.80.
The win was the ninth in 17 lifetime starts for Paz Ciudadana and
was worth $45,000, raising the career earnings for the 6-year-old
mare to $244,439.
Earlier on the card, jockey Cliff Berry won five races, falling
one victory shy of the track mark held by Ronald Ardoin (July 17,
1997) and Anthony Lovato (July 3, 2001).
Opening weekend at Lone Star Park concludes Sunday with a nine-race
program at 1:35 p.m. Activities for the entire family include a
30,000 Easter Egg Hunt for children 10 and under.
