Yawls Signature Victorious in the
$15,500 Harrisburg Handicap at SHRP (Sunday, July
6, 2003) - Yawls Signature continued his winning ways, holding
off a competitive field of eleven in the $15,500 Harrisburg Handicap
tonight at Sam Houston Race Park.
The 5-year-old son of Vital Sign is owned by Larry Hibberd of
Corinth, Texas and trained by Faith Price. He was making his first
start following his win in the John Deere East Challenge (G3) at
Delta Downs on May 17. John Hamilton was in the irons and did a
fine job keeping on course, despite being bumped from both sides
midway through the race. He was able to prevail and surged to the
wire, finishing the 550-yard contest in a final time of :27.331.
"About midway through there it seemed that horses came from
both sides," recalled Hamilton. "This horse just runs
on the bridle so I just sat still and held him together. I had an
opportunity to watch this horse run at Delta (in the John Deere
East Challenge). I was beside him for a while and then I was behind
him for a while. Alvin Brossette called me to give me some advice
and I really appreciate Larry and Faith having the faith in me to
let me ride their horse."
Running second was Alabama Schoolboy owned by Carl J. Chaisson
and trained by Chad Hassenpflug. Patrick Watson came in from Delta
Downs to ride.
"Patrick said that the 3 (Our Cash Flow) breaking through
the gate prior to the start caused him to lose focus," said
Tammy Hassenpflug, who saddled for her husband." "He got
bumped a little at the start and Patrick said he had to carry the
3 along for a bit. Then he was sandwiched as they came onto the
main part of the track and the 5 got the jump on him. He came back
and ran hard to be second. He is a nice horse."
