Co-World Champion Streakin Sin Tacha Keeps Winning Streak Intact
(Sunday, June 29, 2003) - Streakin Sin Tacha, 2002 Co-World
Champion, returned to Sam Houston Race Park on Sunday, June 29.
He won the ninth race of the card, an $8,500 allowance, which served
as a prep for the $80,000-added MBNA Texas Challenge Championship
on Saturday, July 12. Jerry Lee Yoakum rode the 5-year-old gelding
for owner/ trainer Janet Van Bebber. Streakin Sin Tacha is undefeated
at the northwest Houston racetrack, and won his seventh consecutive
race over the last three seasons. Bred in Louisiana by the late
Steve Van Bebber and Lee Ray Hayes, the son of Streakin La Jolla
has dominated the Texas racing circuit for the past two years and
was named both Sam Houston Race Park and Lone Star Park Horse of
the Meeting. The heavy favorite in the seven-horse field, Streakin
Sin Tacha paid $3.00 to win, completing the 350-yard race in a time
of :17.60.
"We were wanting this to be an easy race for him to set him
up for the MBNA and it appears that is what we got," said Van
Bebber following his victory on Sunday evening. "I am thankful
to Jerry Lee for riding him just the way I asked him to."
This was the first time Yoakum had ever ridden the accomplished
gelding and he was thrilled with the opportunity.
"It’s nice to get on one like that," commented
Yoakum. "He broke sharp but the 4 (Ronas Wind Dancer) broke
even sharper and had about half a side on him. He just powered on
up to get lead and stayed in hand nearing the wire. He’s just
push button."
