The Park Concludes the 2010 Quarter Horse Meet with over $100,000 in purses THIS Saturday
(Thursday, August 12, 2010) - Sam Houston Race Park will
host a solid race card highlighted with three stakes races totaling
over $100,000 in purse money on Saturday, August 14, 2010. Saturday’s
high-dollar stakes races include: the $26,025 Texas Paint Horse
Breeders’ Association (TPHBA) Maturity (G3), the $33,860 Colors
of Houston Futurity (G2), and the largest purse of the night, the
$48,300 Sam Houston Maiden Classic presented by Spring Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge.
The fourth race on the card will be the $26,025 Texas Paint Horse
Breeders’ Association (TPHBA) Maturity (G3), featuring 11
horses racing a distance of 350 yards on the dirt track. Favored
Aintscaredaflyin (3-1) looks for his first win in The Park’s
2010 Meet. The three-year-old Sorrel paint gelding is trained by
Dwayne “Sleepy” Gilbreath and will be ridden by jockey
Rodrigo Sigala Vallejo.
The TPHBA Maturity is for paint horses three-years-old and up.
The field will also feature Action Figure, Zee Player, I Do One
Two Three, Speed Bandit, Judys Rocket To Cash, Jubious Illusion,
Barney Ofield, Allysa, Grand Diamonds and Takin On The Hero.
The fifth race on the night’s card will be the $33,860 Colors
of Houston Futurity (G2) highlighting 10 horses sprinting a distance
of 350 yards. The favorite is Rockin To First (3-1), who looks to
nab her third consecutive win. The three-year-old filly is trained
by Jaime E. Gonzalez and will be ridden by jockey Luis Ramirez.
She looks to compete with Huerfano (5-1), who ended up with the
fastest qualifying time in the trials run on July 29.
The remainder of the field will showcase Country Marauder, Moons
Image, Turbo Judy, Sharp Trouble, Zaide, Northernete, Double Dashing
Girl and Dashin Mohawk.
The sixth race of the night will be the highly anticipated $48,300
Sam Houston Maiden Classic, presented by Spring Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge.
The 350-yard race showcases three, four and five year old maidens
as of July 6, 2010. Favored First Royal Feature (9-2) will be looking
to best Goose Bumps (6-1). Goose Bumps narrowly missed garnering
the fastest qualifying time in trials run on July 29. First Royal
Feature is a three-year-old brown gelding trained by Dwayne “Sleepy”
Gilbreath, and he will be guided by jockey Gaspar Garcia.
The remainder of the 10-horse field features Mr Jess Kue, Game
Toole, Drenalin, Zacalo, Deflowered, Zenato, Corona Confidential
and Double Dealin N Cash.
To round out the 2010 meet on Saturday, August 14th, The Park
will hold live racing events, along with Party on the Patio featuring
outdoor patio seating, hot food off the grill, and $2 draft beer
specials from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., and closing out the 2010 Verizon
Wireless Summer Concert Series on the Bud Light stage will be The
New 107.5 The Eagle Rock & Races Day, with performances from
the Loverboy, Scandal & The Fabulous Thunderbirds.
The 2010 American Quarter Horse meet will conclude at The Park
with live racing events Thursday, Friday and Saturday through August
14.
