$50,000 Sam Houston Classic (G2) This Friday at Sam Houston Race Park
(Thursday, August 12, 2010) - Sam Houston Race Park will
host a solid race card with 11 live Quarter Horse races, with the
$50,000 Sam Houston Classic (G2) as the featured race of the night,
on Friday, August 13, 2010. Favored Stolis Winner (5-2) is looking
to return to the winner’s circle this weekend after previously
winning The Park’s $106,290 Bank of America Texas Challenge
Championship (G1), held on July 10th. The four-year-old gelding,
trained by one of The Park’s veteran trainers, Heath Taylor,
looks for his 13th career win under the guidance of jockey G.R.
Carter, Jr.
“He really came out and took charge of the Bank of America
Challenge Championship,” commented Taylor. “This horse
will never be put in a small race; he’s an incredible athlete,
and it’s truly gratifying to have one like this.”
Stolis Winner is owned by Jerry Windham. With one of the most
impressive and toughest fields of the season, Stolis Winner will
find competition in King Brimmerton, Comin Thru and Blue Louisiana
Doll. All three horses have been on winning streaks, each winning
three to five consecutive stakes races in the past few months.
“This will be a tough race with so many good horses running,
but he’s by far the best I’ve ever ridden,” commented
jockey Carter, Jr. “He’s fun to ride, always breaks
well, and has phenomenal finishes.”
The 10-horse field will also feature Charal Kid, Bertha Venation,
Miss Kips Streakin, Mon Ti Stoli, Thats An Azoom and Point Of Deception,
in addition to Stolis Winner, Blue Louisiana Jolla, Comin Thru and
King Brimmerton.
The Park will host Fan Appreciation Dollar Day on Friday evening,
featuring tons of FREE giveaways plus live racing admission, live
racing program, ice cream, hot dogs and soda each for only $1 each,
along with 50 Cent Beer Night presented by Houston Press
and ESPN 97.5, offering fans 50 cent draft beer specials from 5:30
