Thereaintnobugsonme & Toast To Deefirst Win Their Respective Divisions of the $15,000 Woodland Stakes on Saturday at SHRP
(Houston, Texas - Saturday, August 7, 2010) - Sam Houston
Race Park hosted two $15,000 Woodland Stakes races on Saturday,
August 7, 2010. Both stakes races were for three-year-old Quarter
Horses racing a distance of 870 yards on the dirt track.
The first Woodlands Stakes was Race 7 and featured eight horses.
Thereaintnobugsonme came with the upset win over Sorreano and claimed
first in a time of :46.95. The three-year-old brown filly is trained
by J. Benny Pennington, owned by Wanda Pennington, and was guided
to the finish by jockey Alfonso Lujan. Favored horse Down N Cool
broke slow and finished in a disappointing last.
“This is her first win here at Sam Houston and her first
at this distance, so we’re excited,” commented Pennington.
“Alfonso did a great job with her tonight.”
Thereaintnobugsonme paid her betting fans $28.40 for the win.
She also topped out at a solid speed index of 83. Final placement
featured Sorreano in second and My Nickelodeon in third, followed
by Pronto Tonto, Mr See Lee, Prince Of Winning, Royal Tiny Chaos
and Down N Cool.
Race 8 was the second Woodlands Stakes of the night and featured
seven horses. Favored A Classic Jess rallied on the rail but was
beat out by Toast To Deefirst. The three-year-old sorrel colt is
trained and owned by Fernando S. Velazquez and was ridden by jockey
Juan M. Torres.
Toast To Deefirst broke sharp from the starting gate, set the pace
for the field, and drew clear at the finish for an upset win in
a time of :46.64. Toast To Deefirst was a longshot, therefore paying
his betting fans nicely with $32.40 for the win. The colt also reached
a reputable speed index of 87.
Final placement featured A Classic Jess in second and Dixie Garden
Dash in third, followed by Me N You, Zoomin N Cashin, Talented Kind
and Csr Bigdoggin.
In addition to live racing events, The Park held the popular Party
on the Patio Steak Night, featuring outdoor patio seating on the
Apron area, hot steak off the outdoor grill, twice-baked potato,
and $2 draft beer from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The Verizon Wireless Summer Concert Series continued on the Bud
Light stage with performances from Roger Creager, Reckless Kelly
and The Cody Johnson Band following live racing event.
