$20,000+ Silestone Stakes Tops
The Independence Day Race Card at SHRP
(Thursday, July 2, 2009) - Sam Houston Race Park will host
an All-American Independence Day Celebration, featuring the $20,000+
Silestone Stakes, a 350-yard race for Texas-bred fillies and mares
three years of age and up, on Saturday, July 4, 2009. Additional
featured races for this weekend will be the $16,675 Colors of the
Alamo Paint Futurity and the $7,500+ Colors of Texas Paint Stakes.
Jockey David Alvarez has the mount on morning line favorite Racing
Streak (3-1). The four-year-old stakes-only mare, trained by Thomas
Zarate, is coming off of a second place finish in the $25,000 Eastern
Distaff Challenge at Delta Downs on May 23 and a win in the $15,000
TQHA Texas Stakes at Manor Downs on April 18.
“She’s done well in the majority of her races,”
commented Zarate. “The only times she’s had real problems
are when she gets bumped, but she usually breaks well and finishes
strong, so we’re hoping that’s what she does on Saturday.”
The nine-horse field will also feature Eye On The Jury, Sixes
La Jolla, Tearful, Senorita Seis, Jess Pick Me, Running First, A
River Dance and XO Kate.
The $16,675 Colors of the Alamo Paint Futurity will feature 10
paint horses running a distance of 350 yards. The morning line favorite
is JNL Champagne Lineage (5-2), ridden by jockey Francisco Raul
Ramirez, Jr. and trained by Bobby Touchet. The remainder of the
field features Judys Rocket To Cash, Double Dashing, Double Your
Destiny, Six Point, Aintscaredaflyin, Grand Diamonds, Isdazzlinginbed,
Hand On Hip and Slick Angel.
The $7,500 + Colors of Texas Paint Stakes is a 400-yard dash featuring
six paint horses. The favorite, Such A Dasher (8-5), will be ridden
by jockey Russel Hadley and trained by Sandra Garnett. The remainder
of the field features Jubious Illusion, Kiss The Money Honey, Corys
Doll, A Lil Bit Paint and Could Be A Paint.
