(Houston, Texas - Saturday, June 19, 2010) - The trials for the $113,250 Sam Houston Derby for three-year-olds going 400 yards were held on Saturday, June 19 at Sam Houston Race Park. Rose Mary Chandler's Acorn emerged as the fastest qualifier, leading all the way as the 7-to-10 favorite in his trial to cross the wire a dominent 3 3/4 lengths in front in :19.749. The brown gelding by Oak Tree Special out of the Tasso mare Trio Gal earned a Speed Index of 101 for his effort. He is trained by Janet Van Bebber and was ridden to victory by James Brooks.
