Grade 3 $69,570 John Deere Texas Juvenile Challenge Highlights Racing Events at SHRP This Weekend
(Houston, Texas - Friday, May 14, 2010) - Sam Houston Race
Park will host an exciting weekend of live racing, with the Grade
3 $69,570 John Deere Texas Juvenile Challenge topping the nine-race
card on Saturday, May 15.
Trials for the John Deere Texas Juvenile Challenge were run on
April 30, with Awe Contraire holding off A Regal Eye to take top
qualifying honors in a time of :17.922. The 350-yard sprint for
two-year-olds will showcase some of The Park’s top trainers
, including Eusevio Huitron, Shawn Friesenhahn, and Yasmine Medina-Feirro.
Awe Contraire (3-1) is a two-year-old Texas-bred filly who has
proved a good horse already at a young age on the Louisiana, Oklahoma,
and Texas racing circuit. The filly is trained by Huitron and will
be ridden by jockey David Pinon.
“She did what we asked of her in the trials, and we look
for her to do even better in this final,” commented Huitron.
The 350-yard race will feature a field of ten, including Duncan
B, Mishaps Too, Gols Honey Money Pop, A Regal Eye, Unknown Source,
One N A Million, Prime Idol, Intocable Snow, and Panchita Shake.
Saturday’s live racing event will be followed by a performance
from Houston’s own Blue October, with opening act The Black
and White Years, as part of the Verizon Wireless Summer Concert
