Special Razzledazzle Upsets Retama
Park Futurity (Sunday, June 22, 2003) - The
final night of Retama Park's 2003 American Quarter Horse Meet produced
a major upset when 4-5 favorite Brimmerton missed the break in the
350 yard feature. 50-1 longshot Special Razzledazzle jumped to the
early lead and then held off a fast closing Cassandra Crest to claim
the most important race of meet. Trained by Joe M. Garza and ridden
by Raul Ramirez, Jr., Special Razzledazzle won for the second time
in five starts.
Oak Tree Special Takes Top Three-Year-Old Race
Leading rider J.R. Ramirez was aboard a rocket Saturday night when
Oak Tree Special was much the best in the $137,000 Retama Park Derby.
Bobby Martinez, who started four horses at Retama Park in 2003,
won his fourth race of the meeting as Oak Tree Special won the Derby
and was named Horse of the Meet.
