No Tools Required Returns to the Winner's Circle in the $14,500 Yellow Rose Stakes at SHRP

(Sunday, September 1, 2002) - Accredited Texas-bred fillies and mares took to the racetrack in tonight's feature at Sam Houston Race Park, the $14,500 Yellow Rose Stakes. No Tools Required owned and bred by Julie Pilgrim dug in and captured her second stakes victory of the meeting. The 3-year-old daughter of Jody O Toole won the $43,080 TQHA Sires' Cup Derby (RG3) at Sam Houston Race Park on July 12.

Trained by Ronald Gilmer, No Tools Required bobbled at the break, but quickly found her stride and crossed the wire of the 350 yard contest in a time of :17.801 under regular rider Eddie Cox, Jr. She improved her 2002 record to four wins from six starts, and surpassed $100,000 in earnings with tonight's victory.

"This filly has been very good to us for two years now," said Cox. "Last year I pulled off her to ride Madam Cartel in the Sires' Cup Futurity, but I haven't pulled off since. She's a remarkable filly; gives you 100% all the time. Today she lugged out a little coming out of the one hole. She doesn't like the rail, but she did accomplish what we set out to."

"She pulled it off," said Pilgrim. "She likes the competition and when she saw the nine horse, she just dug in and ran a little bit harder. This is a filly that loves the work; we think she would like to make a career of this!"

A fast-closing Runaway Mistress got up for second under Saul Ramirez, Jr. Trainer Bobby Martinez had made some changes in his filly's routine, which he thinks made the difference in her improved performance this evening.

"Her problem was that she doesn't like being on the track," noted Martinez. "I took her back to the ranch and was swimming her and she does a lot better at home. She doesn't like living on the track. When I took her home, she gained weight and when they moved her here, she quit eating completely; she doesn't like the night life."

No Tools Required, sent off at .70-1, paid $3.40 to win, $2.80 to place and $2.60 to show. The 1-9 exacta returned $23.60 and Jump N Jivin ran third to complete the $92.20 trifecta. Completing the order of finish were Miss Fabulous Leader, First Place Darling, Breakaway Babe, Devine Miss Ryon, Streakin Big Girl and Scantily.

Gilmer indicated that No Tools Required would make her next start at Lone Star Park in the Rheudasil Handicap.
