Mr Queens Mystery Wins Richest Race in Texas - $1.15 Million, Grade 1 Texas Classic Futurity
(Saturday, November 29, 2008) - Azoom LP’s Mr Queens
Mystery, trained by Robert Touchet, won by a half-length in a duel
with Julianna Hawn Holt’s Mighty Corona to win the $1,154,802
Texas Classic Futurity for two-year-olds over a fast track at Lone
Star Park on Saturday night.
With jockey Rodrigo Vallejo in the irons, the two-year-old son
of Shazoom dueled gamely with the runner up throughout the race
covering the 400-yard distance in 19.618 seconds to earn a 101 speed
figure. Bobby Cox’s King Brimmerton finished third just another
neck back.
“I knew he would be a lot better horse than last time,”
said winning trainer Robert Touchet. “He had a little problem.
But tonight he ran a good race. He’s a very, very good horse.
“It was close, they were coming on him, but we got them
and that’s what counts,” added Touchet.
With the win in the richest race in Texas horse racing, Mr Queens
Mystery added $513,888 to boost his career earnings to $522,460
and improved his lifetime record to three wins from seven starts,
including three for three at Lone Star Park.
Mr Queens Mystery paid $13.00, $8.60 and $4.40, Mighty Corona returned
$8.80 and $4.40, and King Brimmerton paid $3.40 to show.
Completing the order of finish were Double Chiseled, Specially
