Rheudasil Handicap, Hippodromo de las Americas, and Joe B. Turner Memorial Stakes Recaps
(Friday, November 28, 2008) - Check On Chico, owned by Julie
Irwin Cotton and trained by Judd Kearl, won the 10th running of
the $20,000 Rheudasil Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward,
over a muddy track at Lone Star Park on Friday night.
With Rodrigo Vallejo aboard, the bay son of Dashin Chico, who
finished third in the Rheudasil in 2007, finished the 350-yard assignment
in 17.499 for a winning speed index of 100. It was a neck back to
Sin Tacha Perry in second and Eyesa Country Miss finished another
head back in third.
With the win, Check On Chico improved his record to 8 wins from
21 starts, and boosted his career earnings to $149,799 with the
$11,000 winner’s purse.
Check On Chico paid $5.20, $3.00, and $2.20, runner-up Sin Tacha
Perry returned $7.20 and $7.00, and Eyesa Country Miss paid $5.20
for show. Painkiller, Panther Purr, Streakin Illusively, Jess Flashy,
Killer Bod, Heza Two Timing Man, and Jodys Funny Face completed
the order of finish.
19-1 Longshot Dashing O Toole Takes Hippodromo de las
Americas
Surviving a very bumpy start on a muddy track, 19-1 long shot Dashing
O Toole held on to win the 8th Running of the $15,000 Hippodromo
de las Americas Stakes for two-year-old colts and geldings at Lone
Star Park on Friday night.
Efren Moreno’s two-year-old colt, trained by Victoria Cano
and ridden by Carlos Castro, escaped a traffic jam involving more
than half the field of nine at the start to win the 400-yard race
in 19.971 seconds to earn a speed figure of 92. Dashing O Toole
finished a half-length in front of runner up Cool Shazoom and it
was a head back to Zoom for Fun.
With his first Lone Star Park win, Dashing O Toole improved his
career record to three wins from seven starts and more than doubled
his lifetime earnings to $15,601 with the $8,850 winner’s
share. The winner paid $40.40, $19.40 and $5.40, Cool Shazoom returned
$5.60 and $3.60, and Zoom for Fun paid $2.20 to show.
Cc Toasting Warrior, Reads Fast Man, Ag Time Gamer, Rf Im Leaving
Early, Patriot Fortune, Cayenne Turbo, and Snazzy Special Lead completed
the order of finish.

Rubalcava, held on to win by a head in the 11th Running of the $15,000
Joe B. Turner Memorial Stakes for two-year-old fillies over a muddy
track on Friday night at Lone Star Park
With Luis Ramirez in the saddle, Special Headlines overcame a
sluggish start then held off the challenge of several rivals including
runner up Las Pink Panther and third and fourth place finishers
Fast Duchess Ann and Mws Sugar Sand, respectively. The margins between
each of the first four finishers was a head. The two-year-old daughter
of Oak Tree Special completed the 400-yard distance in 19.931 seconds
to earn a speed index of 93.
With the victory, Special Headlines improved her career record
to three wins in nine starts, including two for three at Lone Star
Park, and added the winner’s share of $8,250 to increase her
lifetime earnings to $25,284.
The winner paid $31.20, $14.00 and $10, Las Pink Panther returned
$15.40 and $9.20, while Fast Duchess Ann paid $14.40 to show. Mws
Sugar Sand, Eyesa Speeder, Tearful, Primed to Rock, A Lil Tres Seis,
Thatsmysavingsaccount, and Ace Cinnan completed the order of finish.
Lone Star Park’s 31-day, 2008 Quarter Horse Fall Meeting
of Champions will be held from September 26 to November 29. After
the opening weekend on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26-27, racing
will be held every Thursday through Saturday in October and each
Wednesday through Saturday in November, except Wednesday and Thursday,
Nov. 26-27 when there will be no live racing due to the Thanksgiving
