Owner Vasquez, Trainer Brand and Jockey Ramos Sweep Both Divisions of Mandolynn Hill Farm Stallion Stakes
(Saturday, November 22, 2008) - Owner Sam A. Vasquez, trainer
Elizabeth Brand and jockey Adrian Ramos swept both ends of the $20,000
Mandolynn Hill Farm Stallion Stakes doubleheader for Arabians at
Lone Star Park on Friday night. The trio teamed up to win the female
division with Jessy Princess in the evening’s eighth race
then returned two races later to capture the male division with
Caitlyns Hot.
In the $20,000 Mandolynn Hill Farm Stallion Stakes colts and geldings
division for three-year-olds and up, Caitlyns Hot turned the tables
on By Golly Sand and The Last Danse, who finished first and second
ahead of him, respectively, when the three last met in the La Estrellita
Ranch Arabian Stakes at Lone Star Park on Oct. 18.
Caitlyns Hot battled for the lead with runner up The Last Danse
from right out of the gate, down the backstretch and through the
turn before edging clear to win by two-and-a-half lengths. Tour
De France finished four lengths behind The Last Danse in third.
It was the sixth win in 16 starts for Caitlyns Hot, who increased
his career earnings to $46,505 with the $12,000 winner’s share.
Caitlyns Hot completed the seven furlongs in 132.43 over a fast
track and paid $12.80, $5.00 and $7.00, The Last Danse returned
$4.00 and $3.00, and Tour De France paid $5.60 to show.
So Big is Better, By Golly Sand, Ordination, Sharp Cookie, Ala
Bout Me, Frynge Benefit, and AF Smarty Pants completed the order
of finish.
In the female division, Jessys Princess rallied in the stretch
to defeat 2-5 odds-on favorite Bessemer and avenge a loss earlier
this year in the Hall of Fall Distaff at Los Alamitos in the 10th
running of the $20,000 Mandolynn Hill Farm Stallion Stakes for Arabian
fillies and mares, three-years-old and up.
During the race, Jessys Princess was well placed behind the leaders
on the backstretch, chased the leader Bessemer on the turn before
making a winning move in the final furlong to win by two-and-a-quarter
lengths over the favorite. The five-year-old mare completed the
seven furlongs over a fast track in 1:33.76. AF Sassey Dreams finished
third, four lengths behind the runner up.
With the win, Jessys Princess improved her career record to 13
wins in 23 career starts and increased her lifetime earnings to
$91,758 with the $12,000 winner’s share. The winner paid $18.20,
$4.40 and $3.00, the runner up Bessemer returned $3.00 and $2.40,
while AF Sassey Dreams paid $5.20 to show.
Completing the order of finish were Whos Your Daddy, AF Gelda,
Storm Surge, Abra Caadabra, She’s a Dandy, Sole Dancer, Vibvilcca,
and Shezgotlegs.
