All American Futurity Champ Stolis Winner Heads Field of 81 Competing in Texas Classic Futurity Trials
(Thursday, November 13, 2008) - All American Futurity victor
Stolis Winner, owned by Jerry Windham and trained by Heath Taylor,
will be one of the favorites to qualify during the trials for the
Grade 1, $1.15 million Texas Classic Futurity to be held on Saturday
night at Lone Star Park.
A total of 81 two-year-olds will compete in nine trials for the
top 10 spots qualifying them for the richest race in Texas horse
racing on Saturday, Nov. 29, closing day of Lone Star Park’s
2008 Fall Meeting of Champions. The 11th through 20th best times
qualify for the $75,000 Texas Classic Futurity Consolation the same
night.
Jockey G.R. Carter, Jr., who guided Stolis Winner to victory in
the All American Futurity, will be in the saddle again in Saturday’s
seventh race. The son of Stoli out of the Runaway Winner mare Veva
Jean is the all-time highest money winning two-year-old Quarter
Horse in history with lifetime earnings of $1,789,467 on seven wins
and a second in eight career starts. Stolis Winner will be shooting
for his fourth Grade 1 win of the year after winning the $1.1 million
Heritage Place Futurity at Remington Park and $625,000 Rainbow at
Ruidoso Downs before winning the All American in his last race.
Among Stolis Winner’s chief competitors will be Remington
Park Futurity winner Streakin Six Cartel, who is two for four lifetime
with $292,200 in career earnings, Jodys Money Pop, winner of the
TQHA Sales Futurity at Sam Houston in July looking for his fifth
win in his eighth start, Harrah’s Entertainment Futurity winner
at Louisiana Downs Sixy Royal King, who has three wins and two seconds
in 10 starts, and Baja Jazz, the Manor Downs’ Longhorn Futurity
winner and Retama Park Futurity runner-up who has four wins and
two seconds in seven starts.
Saturday’s Texas Classic Futurity trials will be the first
nine races on the 11-race card at Lone Star Park. First post time
is 6:35 p.m.
Lone Star Park’s 31-day, 2008 Quarter Horse Fall Meeting
of Champions will be held from September 26 to November 29. After
the opening weekend on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26-27, racing
will be held every Thursday through Saturday in October and each
Wednesday through Saturday in November, except Wednesday and Thursday,
Nov. 26-27 when there will be no live racing due to the Thanksgiving
