Texas Classic Derby Trials on Friday, Nov. 14 at Lone Star Park
(Wednesday, November 12, 2008) - A total of 40 are entered
for the Texas Classic Derby trials, scheduled for races 7-10 on
Friday, which will be run at 440 yards with the top 10 qualifying
times advancing to the Grade 1, $400,00 Texas Classic Derby on Saturday
Nov. 29. Post time for the seventh race and first trial is scheduled
for 8:59 p.m.
Among the entrants to watch are -- recent winner of the 6666 Handicap
at Lone Star Park Coronas Leaving You, a winner of eight of 10 career
starts for $176,332; Swinging Jess, the 2007 Retama Park and Manor
Downs Futurity winner, who ran fourth in $1 million Texas Classic
Futurity at Lone Star Park last December, and most recently won
the $200,000 Dash For Cash Derby here on October 25; Red Storm Cat,
runner-up in the Texas Classic Futurity in 2007, and an impressive
open-lengths winner of an optional claiming event here on October
30; Eyesa Jumpn, a winner of nine of 24 career starts for $460,270;
and This Candys Okay, a filly with career earnings of $216,255,
and a winner of eight of 13 career starts, including eight of her
last 10.
Lone Star Park’s 31-day, 2008 Quarter Horse Fall Meeting
of Champions will be held from September 26 to November 29. After
the opening weekend on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26-27, racing
will be held every Thursday through Saturday in October and each
Wednesday through Saturday in November, except Wednesday and Thursday,
Nov. 26-27 when there will be no live racing due to the Thanksgiving
