Serendipity Rocks Acts Up in Gate, But When It Opens Gets Down to Business to Win the B.F. Phillips Jr. Stakes at Lone Star Park
(Grand Prairie, Texas - Friday, November 8, 2019) - Favorite Serendipity Rocks was fractious in the gate just before it opened, but when it was time, jockey Jose Montoya was able to get the gelding's mind back to the business at hand to win the 400-yard B.F. Phillips Jr. Stakes by a length over This Is a Deal Too. It was a nose back to third placed Dm La Jolla. Montoya never uncocked his stick, giving the winner a hand ride throughout the race. Final time was :19.625 seconds, good for a 99 speed index.
Serendipity Rocks is a four-year-old gelded son of Rock Solid Jess out of Precious Serendipity, by Behold a Beduino. He is owned by Sarah Huskey of Dallas and trained by Esteban Rubio. He went off as the wagering favorite, returning $4.80. This Is a Deal Too finished second, a nose in front of Dm La Jolla, followed by Jax Louisiana Game, Dak and Acadillac past the wire.
The win was the seventh from 14 career starts, and with the winner's share of $15,750, his bankroll now totals $134,241. |
