Paint & Appaloosa Stakes Double Header Saturday Night at Lone Star Park
(Grand Prairie, Texas - Friday, November 2, 2012) - Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie will host two stakes races for Paint and Appaloosa horses Saturday night beginning with the inaugural $27,330 Masterpiece Challenge Paint & Appaloosa Challenge Stakes.
The Masterpiece Racing Challenge program provides added incentives for owners of three-year-old racing Paint and Appaloosas and features nine qualifying races held in various states. The Masterpiece enrolled winners of highest enrolled finisher of those races plus the at-large qualifiers (as selected by the APHA Racing Committee) are invited to compete in the Masterpiece Challenge race at Lone Star Park.
The field from the rail out of enrolled qualifying horses, with jockey and morning line odds listed in parenthesis, is: Dosofme (Gaspar Garcia, 4-1); Spotless Redneck (Kenny Muntz, 15-1); Ivory Queen (Roy Baldillez, 3-1); Sw Eye Candy (James Flores, 10-1); Bp Cartels Paint (Jose Alvarez, 20-1); Rawhide Legend (Luis Ramirez, 15-1) and Crm Livewire (Cody R. Smith, 8-5).
Scheduled as race four on the nine-race card, post time for the Masterpiece Challenge Paint and Appaloosa Stakes is 8:57 p.m. (CDT).
Fastest Qualifier No Sure Thing in Grade 1 Futurity
Fastest qualifier, Hesa Sweet First Down, will have to repeat his stellar performance he gave in the trials if he wants to take the prize in Saturday's Grade 1, $103,762 Lone Star Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity, because the competition looks tough.
Owned by Carole Vann Stacy and trained by Matt Whitekiller, Hesa Sweet First Down did post the fastest time two weeks ago, but only by two one-hundredths of a second faster than the next fastest. The colt by Sweet First Down has three wins from six lifetime starts and earnings of $18,871 going into Saturday’s race.
Lajollas Mr Big Stuff, the second fastest qualifier, has a bit more experience with six wins and two seconds from 11 lifetime starts and has amassed earnings of $114,529. A. Jane Cullum owns the gelding by Royal Quick Flash, and Dee Keener is his conditioner.
Shirley Wheeler's Imachickenkicker, is a formidable contender. Trained by Luis Villafranco, the filly by Dos Puruno, just won the Grade 1, Pot O Gold Futurity at Will Rogers Downs September 29 by a half-length over Lajollas Mr Big Stuff. Imachickenkicker stats are 9-2-2-2, $43,577.
The field from the rail out, with jockey and morning line odds listed in parenthesis, consists of: Honky Tonk Podie (Eddi Emanuel Martinez, 5-1); Ld Flashback (G. R. Carter, Jr., 15-1); Rah (Rodrigo Vallejo, 20-1); Super Glide Harley (Berkley R. Packer, 12-1); Hesa Sweet First Down
