Three Stakes Featured Saturday at LSP, Including the 16th $25,000-Guaranteed B. F. Phillips, Jr. Stakes (RG3) Plus Two Stakes for Paint and Appaloosa Horses

(Grand Prairie, Texas - Friday, November 1, 2013) - Lone Star Park at Grand Prairie is hosting three stakes races Saturday, November 2. They are the 16th running of the $25,000-Guaranteed B .F. Phillips, Jr. Stakes (RG3) for Accredited Texas-Breds, three-year-old and up at 400 yards, the 2nd running of the $38,000-Estimated Masterpiece Challenge Paint and Appaloosa Stakes for three-year-olds at 400 yards, and the 8th running of the $89,355 Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity (G1) at 400 yards. Gates open Saturday at 10:30 a.m. for simulcast of the Breeders' Cup races. First live race post time is 7:05 p.m.

Aside from the post positions changing and two of the contenders dropping out, the re-scheduled 16th running of the $25,000-Guaranteed B. F. Phillips, Jr. Stakes is the same as when scheduled a week ago. The last five races on the card last Saturday were cancelled due to heavy thunderstorms.

This time around Sure Shot B could be the one to beat. He is by far the most accomplished in this field. He has won exactly half of his 12 career starts, earning $540,984 in the process. Apparently, he loves the track at Lone Star Park. His record here is 4-3-0-0. He won the $1,158,941 Texas Classic Futurity here last year and most recently won an allowance race here on October 3. The four-year-old gelding by Stoli is owned by the partnership of Charles Forbes, Jr. and Tommy Hays, III, and is trained by Bobby Martinez.

Sue Fikes's Loves Brown Sugar is another top contender. This four-year-old mare by Prime Talent finished sixth in her last which was here in the Refrigerator Handicap on September 28. Before that, she was on a streak of five wins straight, including the Selma Stakes in June at Retama Park. In July she won the King William Handicap and the TQHA Classic Stakes, also at Retama. Loves Brown Sugar is trained by Kie Mushinski and will be ridden by Cesar Zuniga.

The field from the rail out, with jockey and morning line odds listed in parentheses, consists of: Fiery Cartel (Bobby Lee Dow, 12-1); Nash Jolla (Rodrigo Sigala Vallejo, 4-1); Rebels Prospect (Jose Amador Alvarez, 15-1); Sure Shot B (Larry D. Payne, 9-5); Jess a Comment (Luis Ramirez, 6-1); Ja Jess Perfect (Francisco Calderon, 8-1); Loves Brown Sugar (Cesar Zuniga, 5-2) and Bz Amazing Grace (Roy Baldillez, 30-1).

The $25,000-Guaranteed B.F. Phillips, Jr. Stakes (RG3) is the scheduled 10th race on the 11-race program with a scheduled post time of 11:02 p.m.

Second Running of the Masterpiece Challenge Paint & Appaloosa Stakes

The American Paint Horse Association's Masterpiece Racing Challenge program provides added incentives for owners of three-year-old racing Paint and Appaloosa horses. The program is designed to boost the purses available to 3-year-olds, as well as enhance the value of enrolled horses. It features nine qualifying races held in various states. The Masterpiece enrolled winners or highest enrolled finisher of those races plus the at-large qualifiers (as selected by the APHA Racing Committee) are invited to compete in the Masterpiece Challenge race at Lone Star Park. All horses must be registered with the American Paint Horse Association (APHA) or Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC).

Shirley Wheeler's Imachickenkicker, appears a formidable contender. This three-year-old filly by Dos Puruno has career stats of 16-6-2-2 earning $141,014. She is the winner of last year's Speedhorse Paint and Appaloosa Futurity (G1) here, and has won three stakes this year including the PSBA American Paint Derby (G1) at Remington Park in April and the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Stakes (G1) also at Remington. Imachickenkicker is trained by Luis Villafranco. Jockey Roy Baldillez has the mount.

Scheduled as race six on the 11-race card, post time for the Masterpiece Challenge Paint and Appaloosa Stakes is 9:26 p.m. (CDT).

$89,355 Speedhorse Paint and Appaloosa Futurity (G1)

Fastest qualifier Imflashinthechicks, owned by Shirley Wheeler and trained by Luis Villafranco, is a half-brother to last year's winner, Imachickenkicker. Imflashinthechicks has been made the 7-5 morning line favorite in this. Before winning his trial to qualify in tonight's futurity, the gelding by SF Royal Quick Flash had won his last three races. He sports a race record of 10-7-1-1 with earnings totaling $121,446.

Major Tom, owned by Mary Hainline and trained by Eddie Willis is four times a winner from five lifetime outs. His one miss was a third place finish in the Victoria Ennis Memorial Stakes at Remington Park last April. His most recent win, aside from his qualifying trial, was a win in the Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity (G1) also at Remington Park June 1. His record is 5-4-0-1 with earnings of $112,637.
