17th Renewal of the $25,000 B. F. Phillips, Jr. Stakes (RG3) on Tap Saturday at Lone Star Park
(Grand Prairie, Texas - Thursday, October 30, 2014) - Saturday, November 1 marks the 17th renewal of the $25,000-guaranteed B. F. Phillips, Jr. Stakes (RG3). The 400 yard contest is for Accredited Texas Bred three-year-olds & upward. It is the scheduled eighth race on the 10 race program. Gates open at 10:30 a.m. We have a special first race post time of 7:05 p.m. to accommodate the Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships simulcast from Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California.
Dana L. and Brian Stroud's Jrc Callas First has been installed as the 8-5 morning line favorite. The four-year-old Texas-bred gelding by Winners Award out of Calla Missy Jane, by Dirty Coup, won the Grade 1 Refrigerator Handicap here on October 4. With that victory, he increased his streak from four straight to five straight wins. He has earned $102,164 from a career record of 15-9-1-2. If he gets the win Saturday, he will be the first and only horse in Lone Star Park history to win both the Refrigerator Handicap and the B. F. Phillips, Jr. Stakes at the Grand Prairie track. Jrc Callas First is trained by Brian Stroud.
Here is the field for the 17th B. F. Phillips, Jr. Stakes from the rail out, with jockey and morning line odds:
Jetblack Gold Moment (Eddi Emanuel Martinez, 5-2); Viva Sin Tacha (Ricky Ramirez, 3-1); If I Were Famous (Omar Reyes, 15-1); Jrc Callas First (Damien I. Martinez, 8-5); Charal Kid (Santos Carrizales, 15-1); Sparrow Contender ( Raul Gutierrez, 12-1); Pyro (Rodrigo Sigala Vallejo, 12-1) and Rootbeerandtwinkies (Alex Baldillez, Jr. (15-1).
Post time for the B. F. Phillips, Jr. Stakes, the eighth race is 10:28 p.m. (CDT).
Additional notes: The ninth race on the Saturday card is the Gridiron Gallop at 100 yards. The race is an exceptionally exciting sprint for American Quarter Horses. Since the race is over on average in six-and-a-half seconds, it is probably best to pick horses that break sharp. There is no room to recover from a bad start. Post time for the Gridiron Gallop is approximately 10:54 p.m. |
