Point of Deception Wins $25,000 B. F. Phillips, Jr. Handicap at Lone Star Park

(Grand Prairie, Texas - Satiurday, October 29, 2011) - Point of Deception, owned and trained by Javier Contreras, and ridden by Eddi Martinez, prevailed in what Lone Star Park announcer John Lies termed “a wicked head bob” to win the 13th running of the B. F. Phillips Jr. Handicap (RG3) over a fast track Saturday night at Lone Star Park.

On Halloween weekend, the brown son of Feature Mr Jess finished fast to win a five-horse blanket finish by a nose, Six Toast finished second and it was another neck back to Gallant Corona in third.

No stranger to the winner’s circle, the Texas-bred gelding has now won seven of 23 lifetime starts and the $15,250 winner’s share of the purse boosted his lifetime earnings to $116,462. The final time of 19.524 for the 400 yards earned a speed index of 98.

Point of Deception paid $22.60, $7.00, $4.20; runner-up Six Toast returned $4.60, $3.60; and Gallant Corona paid $6.20 to show. Charal Kid, Ms Riptide, Chasing the Cheese and Shake Em Special Pop completed the order of finish.
