Live Moonshine
Fastest Qualifier Proves Best in Grade 1, $57,725 Lone Star Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity Final

(Grand Prairie, Texas - Saturday, October 27, 2018) - It was a photo between the top two in the $57,725 Lone Star Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity (G1). When the race went official, it was the post-time favorite and fastest qualifier, Live Moonshine, a head in front of Baileys and Rum. Final time for the 400-yard futurity was :19.926 seconds over a fast track, earning a speed index of 92.

"I had no doubt that I won it," said winning jockey Cody Smith. "But after I galloped back and it still wasn't official, it made me second guess everything."

It took a bit longer to post the photo than usual, but Smith was right.

Baileys and Rum, a filly by Dominyun, took the lead out of the gates by a half-length but couldn't hold off a fast-closing Live Moonshine at the end. It was another length-and-a-quarter back to Cap Attack in third.

Mutuels on the winner returned $5.00, $3.20 and $2.80. For place, Baileys and Rum returned $9.80 and $4.60. And Cap Attack returned $5.40 for the show. Admiral Tom, Lota White Sox, Wired for Sound, Gogo Maserati, Hotwired Daddy and Tres Miracles finished in that order behind the top three.

This was Live Moonshine's fourth grade 1 win this year. And with tonight's share of the purse, he has pocketed $118,754 for his breeders and owners, Kaye & Dan Jones of Kemp, Texas.

Live Moonshine is a black APHA gelding by Crm Livewire. Winning trainer was Matt Whitekiller.

There was no Speedhorse Triple Crown on the line this year as two different horses won the first two legs. The Triple Crown races are: the Speedhorse Graham Paint & Appaloosa Futurity at Remington Park, the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity run at Will Rogers Downs and the Lone Star Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity. Speedhorse also awards a high point champion from the three races. Horses that compete in all three get points according to where they finish. This year's winner was Gary Vaughn's Admiral Tom, trained by Luis Villafranco and ridden by Agustin Silva. Congratulations to the connections of both.

Meet Standings

With only four live race days in the meet, the rider's standings have Jesse Levario in the lead with 14 victories. Alejandro Landeros Zuniga sits in second place with 10, and 2016 season winner, Francisco Calderon, is in third place with nine. Josue Ponce still leads the trainers with 13 wins over Leon Bard's nine. Blane Wood is in third with seven.
