Jess Cranky Breaks Her Maiden in Capturing Dash for Cash Juvenile Stakes at LSP
(Saturday, October 25, 2008) - Johnny Trotter’s Jess
Cranky, ridden by Modesto Pina and trained by Trey Wood, broke her
maiden by winning the fifth running of the $59,105 Dash for Cash
Juvenile Stakes, for two-year-olds, over a fast track on Saturday
night at Lone Star Park.
Jess Cranky’s strong finish nipped the Trey Wood-conditioned
Amsterdam by a head in winning the 400-yard dash in 19.848 seconds
to earn a speed index of 95. It was another three-quarters of a
length back to third-place finisher King Brimmerton.
“I was grateful to get the chance to ride a horse like this
for Trey (winning trainer Trey Wood),” said winning jockey
Modesto Pina, “When I felt the horse break sharp from the
gate, I was sure he’d run a winning race.”
With her first career win, the two-year-old filly improved her
record to a win in five lifetime starts and increased her career
earnings to $16,894 with the $15,959 winner’s share.
Jess Cranky paid $48.40, $21.20 and $10.20, runner-up Amsterdam
returned $8.60 and $6.80, while King Brimmerton paid $4.00 to show.
Surviving Success, Tearful, Mr Bully on the Dash, Leading Off, Corona
and Cuervo, and Azoominrojo completed the order of finish.
