Coronas Leaving You Dashes Away in 6666 Ranch Handicap at LSP
(Friday, October 24, 2008) - Coronas Leaving You, owned
by Bob and Jerry Gaston and trained by Heath Taylor, won the 9th
running of the $20,000, 400 yard 6666 Ranch Handicap, for three-year-olds
and upward, over a fast track at Lone Star Park on Friday night.
Ridden by G. R. Carter, Coronas Leaving You showed a quick first
step and ran strong from start-to-finish in dominating his nine
opponents while stopping the teletimer in 19.802 for a speed index
of 96. The Robert Touchet-trained El Zapatista was a length and
a quarter back in second, and it was another head back to third
place finisher Vodka With Ice.
“He was touting himself in his training that he’d
run a big race tonight, and he sure did,” said winning rider
G. R. Carter.
“We always felt he was a very talented colt and he ran big
for us as a two-year-old, “said winning trainer Heath Taylor.
“He had a setback early in the year and it took us some time
to get him back to the races, but he’s doing very well right
now.”
With the win, Coronas Leaving You improved his record to 8 wins
from 10 starts and increased his career earnings to $176,332.
Coronas Leaving You paid $6.60, $4.40, $3.00, runner-up El Zapatista
returned $8.40, $5.40, and Vodka With Ice paid $14.00 for show.
Cash At the Line, Painkiller, Pretty Special Perry, Killer Bod,
Eye of Glory, Okey Dokey Fantasy and Jodys Funny Face completed
the order of finish.
