The Fastest Ten Were Decided - Will Return for the Grade 1, $1,018,077 Texas Classic Futurity at Lone Star Park

(Grand Prairie, Texas - Saturday, October 20, 2018) - It took all the way to the end of the card to decide the final field for the $1,018,077 Texas Classic Futurity (G1), which will be featured on Saturday, November 10 along with the $376,810 Texas Classic Derby (G1) and the $53,583 Texas Classic Juvenile Stakes.

It was the favorite Eagles Fly Higher ($3.80) in the last trial, race 14, who with a final time of :19.762 seconds landed a spot in the final. His was the seventh fastest of the 14 trials. The son of One Famous Eagle is owned by Vernon Harman & Robert T. Moudy III and trained by Trey Ellis. Rodrigo Vallejo rode him for the win.

Ricky Ramirez was aboard the fastest qualifier of the night, Flying Cowboy 123, owned by Paragon Farms and trained by Blane Wood, who earned his spot winning trial race 7 in a final time of :19.607 seconds. The son of Apollitical Jess is a half-brother to 2011 AQHA Three-Year-Old Champion Cold Cash 123, who won the Rainbow Derby (G1), the Texas Classic Derby (G1) and the Sunland Park Championship Stakes (G1) that year.

Through week five of the meet, Jesse Levario is hanging on top of the rider standings with 11 wins. Alejandro Zuniga is in second place with nine wins, and Nestor Duran holds third with seven. Josue Ponce has a four length win over 2nd place, which is a three-way tie between Adrian Huitron, Rolando Almanza and Blane Wood who each have six wins apiece.

Live racing resumes on Friday, October 26 and features the Texas Arabian Stakes and the final leg of the Friday Night Lights Gridiron Challenge Series 100-yard dash. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. First race post time 6:05 p.m.
