Legacy Eagle the Fastest Qualifier for the Texas Classic Futurity and One of Five Conditioned by Leading Trainer Trey Wood

(Grand Prairie, Texas - Saturday, October 21, 2017) - It was an exciting night of racing as 100 two-year-olds, split into 10 trial races, gave it their all tonight. Each horse was competing for a time fast enough to earn a place in the starting gate for the 25th running of the $873,616 Texas Classic Futurity (G1) to be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Lone Star Park. Fastest qualifier, Legacy Eagle, won the seventh trial, clocking the 400-yard race in :19.698 on a fast track. The gelded son of One Famous Eagle out A Delightful Legacy, by First Down Dash is owned by partners Johnny Trotter & Randy Geiselman. He was one of five qualifiers from the barn of leading trainer Trey Wood. Trainer Leon Bard qualified two, Sleepy Gilbreath, Alonso Neri and Jimmy Padgett each qualified one.

Jockey Ricky Ramirez will have his choice from the four he qualified to the final. Francisco Calderon qualified two, while Cody Jensen, Manuel Gutierrez, Luis Vivanco and Rodrigo Vallejo each qualified one.

Around the track: The leaderboard through week six of the nine-week meet has six-time Lone Star Park leading rider Ricky Ramirez at the top with 18 wins, over Luis Vivanco's 13 victories through Saturday. Trainer standings shows Trey Wood with a comfortable lead of 15 over Leon Bard and Jimmy Padgett, who are tied in second with eight wins each.        

Live racing resumes next Thursday, October 26, 2017. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. First race post time 6:35 p.m.
