$1 Million Texas Classic Futurity Draws 123 in 13 Races on Saturday
(Grand Prairie, Texas - Wednesday, October 20, 2010) -
Saturday night’s trials for the Grade 1, $1 million estimated Texas Classic Futurity for 2-year-olds, drew 123 entries who will run in 13 races at Lone Star Park. The fastest 10 qualifiers will qualify for the finals, to be run at 400 yards, on Saturday, Nov. 13, closing day of the 2010 Fall Meeting of Champions for American Quarter Horses at Lone Star Park.
Trainer Erika Huitron leads all conditioners with 23 entries, including at least one in every race, followed by both Stacy Charette-Hill and Trey Wood with eight, and Dwayne Gilbreath, who has seven.
The most contentious trial on Saturday night should come when three of the top contenders face off against each other in 11th Race scheduled for 10:35 p.m. Grade 1, $463,000 Dash For Cash Futurity winner A Snowy Cartel will try to take the next step in sweeping Lone Star Park’s top two futurity races following that win here on Oct. 9. The 2-year-old daughter of Corona Cartel, owned by Hernando Guerra and trained by Erika Huitron, has five wins and a second in six career starts and earnings of $316,540. Esgar Ramirez has the mount.
The AQHA’s all-time money leading jockey G. R. Carter, Jr. will be aboard Wootan Racing & Reed Land & Cattle’s Llano Teller, who has a 4-1-2 record from eight starts with $428,655 in career earnings, including a victory in the Grade 1, $596,000 Remington Park Futurity on April 17. The 2-year-old Teller Cartel gelding, trained by Jeffrey Heath Reed, only missed by a head in finishing third in the $1 million Heritage Place Futurity at that same track on May 29.
Sammy C. & Johnny C. Martinez & Bobby D. Cox’s American Runaway, who finished second, a nose ahead of Llano Teller, in the Heritage Place Futurity will look to improve upon his 3-2-2 record from eight starts and add to his lifetime earnings of $458,373. Trained by Paul Jones, the gray son of Ocean Runway, won the Grade 1, $500,000 Ruidoso Quarter Horse Futurity on June 13 and was runner up in the Grade 1, $625,000 Rainbow Futurity at Ruidoso Downs on July 25. Cody Jensen ships in to ride.
Saturday's 4th Race, with a scheduled post time of 7:47 p.m., also pits two of the top contenders in a face-to-face battle to qualify. LMR2010’s Givinitaroyaleffort, trained by Edward Hardy, was the winner of the Grade 1, $1 million Heritage Place Futurity at Remington Park and will be looking for his second win in his fifth start. G. R. Carter, Jr will ride the sorrel son of First Down Dash, who has $422,218 in career earnings.
His toughest competition should come from Bobby Cox’s Dominyun, who finished third in both the Grade 1, $1.9 million All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs on Sept. 6 and the Grade 1, $463,000 Grade 1, Dash For Cash Futurity here on Oct. 9. The sorrel son of Mr Jess Perry has three wins with two thirds in six starts and $191,763 in earnings.
One other competitor of note is Burnett Ranches Ltd. & Johnny Trotter’s Miss Racy Jones. Trained by Trey Wood, the sorrel daughter of Mr Jess Perry took an undefeated three for three record into the Grade 1, $1.9 million All American Futurity where she had a troubled start after being pinched back at the break and finished eighth. With jockey Ricky Ramirez in the irons, Miss Racy Jess looks to improve her record to four for five and add to her career earnings of $65,100.
There are 13 trials scheduled for Saturday night with the first post time scheduled for 6:35 p.m. |
