Jessys Princess, By Golly Sand Win Arabian Stakes
(Saturday, October 18, 2008) - Jessys Princess, owned by
Sam A. Vasquez and trained by Elizabeth Brand, was victorious in
the 1st running of the $10,500 seven-furlong Rancho Milagro Yegua
Arabian Stakes, for fillies and mares, three-year-olds and upward,
over a fast track at Lone Star Park on Saturday night.
Ridden by Chris Conway, Jessys Princess was allowed to settle
into position in mid-pack down the backstretch before making a bold
move into contention around the turn. After striking the lead at
the top of the stretch, the duo cruised home in hand to record a
one and a half length victory while stopping the clock in 1:35.16.
The Jerry German-trained Vibvilcca was a determined runner-up, and
it was 14 lengths back to third place finisher French Fling.
“Elizabeth (winning trainer Elizabeth Brand) told me to
take her back early on because she has a lot of finish in her,”
said winning rider Chris Conway. “I had to wiggle through
a few horses around the turn but when we got into the clear she
finished well for me.”
With the win, Jessys Princess improved her record to 12 wins from
21 starts and increased his career earnings to $79,658.
