Ima Ramblin Girl Fastest in Dash For Cash Derby Trials; Sizzling Wins Rheudasil 'Cap at LSP

(October 13, 2006) - Pat and Walter Fletcher’s Ima Ramblin Girl, ridden by five-time AQHA champion jockey G.R. Carter Jr. and conditioned by Hall of Fame trainer Jack Brooks, zipped 440 yards in :21.670 Friday night at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas and was the fastest of 43 three-year-old Quarter Horses that competed for a berth in the Grade 1, $193,300 Dash For Cash Derby.

Five trial races were staged and the 10 fastest times qualified to the Oct. 28 final, which features a $77,320 first prize. The finalists are

In addition to Ima Ramblin Girl, the finalists are Adrians Jolla (:21.735), This Candys Red Hot (:21.791), Rebs Royal Dasher (:21.795), Bag It Up (:21.798), SM Country Cowboy (:21.804), La Bron (:21.835), Fly Corona Cat (:21.864), Sixarun Bug (:21.905) and Im Bionic (:21.908).

Brooks will attempt to win his fourth Dash For Cash Derby with 3-year-old filly Ima Ramblin Girl, a dual stakes winner who won her fifth race in 17 career starts. Brooks won the inaugural 1997 edition with champion Dashing Perfection, the 2002 running with champion First Regards and last year’s renewal with Mighty Invictus.

“She ran big here last year winning the Joe B. Turner Memorial,” Brooks said. “She left the gates good and ran a super race tonight. She’s not a big stout filly and going a quarter of a mile can take a lot out of her. We see what happens in 15 days.”

Friday the 13th was a tough night for the four of the five favorites: Jessified (eighth at odds of 4-5), PYC Paint Your Wagon (fourth at 2-5), El Zapatista (sixth at 5-2) and Going to the Hague (fourth at even-money). Fly Corona Cat, the runner-up to Le Bron in the third trial at 6-5, was the lone favorite to qualify.

Later on the card, Sizzling held off a late run from 6-5 choice Eye Caughtcha Peekin to win the $20,000 Rheudasil Handicap by a nose. Sheza Dashing Disco was another neck back in third.

Sizzling, ridden by Carter and carrying 123 pounds, covered 350 yards in :17.604 and paid $18.40, $9.20 and $4.40 at odds of 8-1 in the field of nine fillies and mares. Eye Caughtcha Peekin, who nearly overcame a sluggish start to win, returned $4.60 and $3. Sheza Dashing Disco paid $3.60. Crazy About Corona was a late gate scratch.

The win was the sixth in 13 lifetime starts for the Russell Harris-trained Sizzling and was worth $11,000, raising the career earnings for the 4-year-old Corona Cartel filly to $93,543 for owners Billy and Mary Eiland and Harris Racing Stables.
