A Night of Upsets in Dash For Cash Finals

(Grand Prairie, Texas - Sunday, October 10, 2010) - Hernando Guerra’s A Snowy Cartel, trained by Erika Huitron, daughter of Eusevio Huitron, who won the 2009 running of the Dash for Cash Futurity with Tempting Dash, proved best in the Grade 1, $463,185 Dash for Cash Futurity over a fast track at Lone Star Park on Saturday night.

A brown daughter of Corona Cartel, A Snowy Cartel was the only filly in the field of 10.  With Esgar Ramirez in the irons, A Snowy Cartel enjoyed a clean trip from start-to-finish before recording a head decision over the Eddie Willis-trained The Printing Press.

Dominyun finished another half-length back in third as part of an odds-on wagering entry with Jumpn Shake.  The final time for the 400 yards distance was 19.412 seconds, earning a speed index of 104.

“She wasn’t herself in the trials and still ran well,” said 24-year-old winning trainer Erika Huitron.  “She’s normally a very high-strung horse and tonight she was really difficult to saddle, so I knew she was ready to go.”

With the victory, A Snowy Cartel improved her race record to five wins from six starts with her only loss being a second-place finish in the trials for tonight’s final.  The $185,278 winner’s share of the purse increased her career earnings to $316,540.

A Snowy Cartel paid $24.60, $19.20, $7.80, The Printing Press returned $21.60, $4.40, and Dominyun paid $2.10 for show.

Completing the order of finish were:  Unashamed, First Arctic Dash, Forest Park, Bodacious Dash, Jumpn Shake, Dale N James, and My Corona Memories.

“I was just hoping he wouldn’t get tired,” said winning breeder/owner/trainer Christian Rubacalva.  “In the trials, he had the lead late and got a little bit tired.  He put his heart on the line tonight.”

“He’s been doing really good since the trials and warmed up well tonight,” added winning jockey Berkley Packer.  “He puts everything he has into it and is very game.”
