Entries of note in the Grade 2, Dash for Cash Futurity - Race 9
Naturally, the fastest qualifier is usually the morning line favorite in the final, but that's not the case this time. Favoritism has been laid on the second fastest qualifier, Duponte, at 9-5. It's understandable since he was just 1/1000th of a second off Eye N Capo's time, plus he has amassed $581,379 this year, winning three of six starts, where Eye N Capo's only career start was in his trial two weeks ago. Duponte, who is trained by Josue Ponce, won the Grade 3 Harrah's Futurity last March at Louisiana Downs, and in June he won the Grade 1 Heritage Place Futurity at Remington Park. Those are nice credentials leading into this. Duponte, who is by American Runaway, is owned by the partners Bobby Cox and Homero & Kristen Ashley Paredes. Jockey Manuel Gutierrez will ride.
Not to take anything away from top qualifier, Eye N Capo. Just because his trial was his first race certainly doesn't make him any less able to win again, or for that matter, continue to improve from now on. His trial win was impressive. He races for owner Ruben Garcia Montemayor and is trained by Adrian Huitron, who is having a great meet. Huitron is tied in second place in the trainer standings currently. Damian Martinez, who was aboard for his trial win will again ride for the final.
The complete field for the 19th running of the Grade 2, Dash for Cash Futurity from the rail out is:
Eye N Capo (Damian Martinez, 7-2); Katharsis (Eddie Sanchez, 15-1); Murcielago (Ricky Ramirez, 12-1); Political Mess (Esgar Ramirez, 6-1); Paint My Pilot (Yordanis Amaro, 4-1); Flyin Eagle (Gilbert Ortiz, 15-1); Strawflyin Tac (Cesar Gomez, 20-1); Duponte (Manuel Gutierrez, 9-5); Cobra Stone (Sergio Rodriguez, 12-1) and Carmel Diamond (Raul Ramirez, Jr., 12-1).
Approximate post time for the Futurity is 10:03 p.m. (CDT).
$235,600 Grade 3, Dash for Cash Derby - Race 8
Double H Racing Investments' Politically Corrupt had the fastest qualifying time in the derby trials a couple of weeks ago and is the morning line favorite in Saturday's Grade 3 Dash for Cash Derby, Race 8 on the card. A three-year-old son of Apolitical Jess, Politically Corrupt gave what was for sure the most impressive performance of the trials. He has won five of six this year and looks tough in this. Trained by Jose Sanchez, he was ridden to victory in the trials by Manuel Gutierrez, who also qualified Tlc Dale, the second fastest qualifier. He chose to ride Politically Corrupt in this.
The top money earner in the field is Ricardo Martinez's Woop Dee Do. At $171,786 earned from a record of 12-4-5-3, he's 100% in the money. Trained by Kelli Martin, the gelded son of Good Reason Sa won the South Florida Invitational Stakes back in February at Hialeah Park, and in June he was second by a head in the Grade 2, Heritage Place Derby at Remington Park. Yordanis Amaro will be aboard, and at 10-1 in the morning line, he looks too good to pass up.
Here is the field for the Grade 3, Dash for Cash Derby (19th running) Race 8 on the card:
My Moment of Fame (Luis Vivanco, 12-1); Especial Cartel (Jose Amador Alvarez, 15-1); Politically Corrupt (Manuel Gutierrez, 5-2); Shez a Hot Valentine (John Hamilton, 6-1); Patriot Pearl (Ricky Ramirez, 20-1); Woop Dee Do (Yordanis Amaro, 10-1); Tlc Dale (Damian Martinez, 3-1); Octonaut (Esgar Ramirez, 9-2); Kid Can Dash (Francisco Calderon, 15-1) and Tellereyematthebar (Cesar Gomez, 8-1).
