G3 AQHA Distance Challenge Saturday Promises to Be One of the Best Races of the Season at Lone Star Park
(Grand Prairie, Texas - Thursday, October 1, 2020) - If you're a fan of the American Quarter Horse hook races, you will want to be at Lone Star Park Saturday for the AQHA Distance Challenge (G3). Gates open at 5:00 p.m. First race post time is 6:05 p.m.
You see the "hook" means around one turn at a distance of 870 yards. And if you've seen many of these then you know it can be a challenge sometimes when horses used to running only in straight races don't make the turn etc. Well not likely this time. All but one in this field of seven are seasoned at the distance.
The excitement in this hook race surrounds a horse named Let There Be Sound. Owned by Louis and Corrine Howard of Kerrville, Texas, this six-year-old gelded son of One Famous Eagle is one special horse. His conditioner John Stinebaugh has specific plans with his racing schedule.
"He's a really good one. I'm excited about running him (Saturday). I'm real, real particular when and where I run him and how often," said Stinebaugh. "I have only two races left this year (planned for him), and this is one of them."
Let There Be Sound has won his last six straight races, all but one a graded stakes. He hasn't had a race since May 20 of this year, but according to Stinebaugh, he'll be ready.
The winner of this race will earn a berth in the October 24 $100,000 AQHA Distance Challenge Championship (G1), which will be contested at The Downs at Albuquerque.
The field of seven going in the race Saturday, in post-position order with jockey and morning line odds, is:
