Sheet Burns Heats Up in Stretch to Capture Inaugural Running of Red Cell Distance Challenge

(Grand Prairie, Texas - Friday, October 1, 2010) - Maclovio Regalado’s Sheet Burns, trained by Alfredo Sanchez, outdueled Blue Ribbon Dash down the stretch to win the Inaugural Running of the $36,720 Red Cell Distance Challenge, for three-year-olds and up at 870 yards, over a fast track at Lone Star Park on Friday night.

Ridden by Jorge Bourdieu, the 8-year-old Okey Dokey Dale gelding, made a three-wide move on the turn then battled down the stretch with second-place finisher Blue Ribbon Dash before pulling away at the sixteenth pole to win by 1 ½ lengths while completing the 870-yard distance in 44.974 seconds earning a Speed Index of 104.  La Especial Corona finished in third another 2 ¼ lengths behind Blue Ribbon Dash.

With the victory in his first race at Lone Star Park, Sheet Burns improved his career record to 17 wins from 71 starts and surpassed the quarter-million dollar mark in money won by raising his career earnings to $255,464 with the $17,993 winner’s share.

Sheet Burns paid $5.40, $4.20, $4.40, runner-up Blue Ribbon Dash returned $10.40, $6.00, and La Especial Corona paid $5.00 to show.

Completing the order of finish were: El Gato Thomas, Vital Winner, Toast to Deefirst, and Jess an Idea.
